Oh yeah, I mean as a part-timer he has been just nothing, & I can't even remember the last time he was on a DG show. I vaguely remember he showed up in January but if you told me he hadn't wrestled there in 2024 at all I'd believe you.

I'm more just lamenting what never was, the payoff to Eita getting kicked out of RED. In my head it was really good.

Astronauts Vs Chicharito Shoki & Kazumasa Yoshida from the 4/5 BJW show was fantastic fun, really wonderfully showcased the underdog team, Yoshida in particular felt he gained a lot here, assuming standard BJW booking doesn't get in the way

yeah it's clear that he could work in DG if he really wanted to. He doesn't. Good for him I guess. the last DG match I saw of him was against Jason Lee and he pulled off some super sick tornado DDT fakeout into an arm submission. that's a good last memory to have of him in DG imo

Anyway Naruki Doi (as a freelancer, even!) is having an all-time career run right now so I'm just going to watch him instead.

Hartley and Ishida vs Fujita and Kashin on Sunday's GLEAT show could be an absolute dumpsterfire, hopefully I don't forget to check it out at some point. Past that, i'll try to make room for the Marigold show and Oiwa's graduation match but will most likely be catching up with Super Jr this whole week, even if today's TJPW has some nice matchups it's more than likely something i'll never get around to watching

Saw on Facebook that Flamita is returning to Dragongate, he was on the DG shows this weekend in Hong Kong (which were put on by a local promotion) & Kzy offered him a spot in Natural Vibes. Wonder how new boss Strong Machine J will feel about that!

I know Jae hinted at this on his recentish Open The Voice Gate appearance, but it still seems interesting. Considering he wrestlers for Big Lucha in Mexico & they at least did have a working relationship with GLEAT with a bunch of Black Generation guys over in January

AMAKUSA being back is a proper delight. Even if that photo makes him look like some sort of American Protestant preacher. NOAH cards are getting harder & harder to watch outside of stuff with Kaito, Kenoh, Alejandro, Kitamiya, Soya (who is out hurt). God I miss Inamura. Anyway, welcome shot in the arm for their juniors which veers between "eh" & "wretched".

I watched Dead or Alive last night & I actually thought a lot of the show was...fine? But I came out of the main event so excited to watch more stuff because of the fallout from the cage match. And the match itself was really good, elevated to great by the storytelling. DG just does the little things so well.

In fairness, this is more the case of Kaito betraying Oiwa by going off and forming his own unit & just leaving the poor New Japan young boy on his own. He deserved it.

I'd go along with that. I was surprised at how much, when I was looking at my top 10 wrestlers of the year so far on my spreadsheet & half of them were DG guys, & then #11 & #12 were Doi & Jason Lee. I love All Japan but they definitely haven't hit the highs of last year, & New Japan does have the highs but everything ends up being such an insane slog which drives me insane. I never feel like that with Dragongate, even when there's stuff like the recent Mante Valletta title match that I didn't love & thought went too long, it doesn't make me angry in the same way.

The pivot to going all in on the class of 2016 and beyond they took during the pandemic feels like it's really starting to come to fruition this year. Even with the Japanese market still down and struggling to get back to post-pandemic levels, Dragongate at least feels like a company with a vision towards the future that a lot of other puro companies seem to be struggling to show.
