The box art of The Magic of Scheherazade is something I can recall immediately because it's rad as hell and I saw it in rental places in the early 90s, but I've never thought to look at what kind of game it is until just now. Maybe I should play it.

Slightly off-topic for this thread, but if you enjoy reading strategy guides, I highly recommend Vermis and Vermis II, which are strategy guides for a fictitious souls-like video game, full of vague descriptions of character classes, monsters, and dungeons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwS71VxNc7o

A few years back I saw posted on SA, a poo poo post, multiplayer, indie golf game that is on Steam. It advertised having to walk between holes, heading to the club, and I think mowing grass? Does anyone remember this?

I have no idea but apparently there are at least two golf horror games? Gone Golfing and Greener Grass Awaits

Cursed to Golf. Yeah. It's pretty good! There's also RPGolf Legends which is a cute little golf + Secret of Mana dealie. It's published by Kemco but don't let that discourage you.

There's some walking simulator/horror game that I can't remember the name of - I remember that it had a giant mall courtyard hub with two levels, escalators between them, and I think doors that lead to other worlds/dimensions. Also I seem to recall there was some collectibles you had to gather to unlock more doors? (Not much to go on, I know) edit: it's not Oceanview Mall - the mall area was much less detailed and had basically bare walls as far as I can remember ymgve fucked around with this message at 05:02 on May 30, 2024 |

The thing is I don't remember if there were any monsters there - it's mainly the main hub area that popped into my head and I have very little memory of the rest of the game.

It's definitely not SH3 and I think it's some small indie game, possibly even from Itch, since I don't see anything in my Steam played list that rings any bells

I don't recognize any of the minigames there, so not that one. I also don't think the graphics was "retro" like that

The hub is a pretty sparse mall and leads off to other liminal space cliches and you had to find tickets to unlock more

I wonder if this thread can identify another vaguely remembered game from the mists of memory. A jet fighter combat sim, early 90s (90-93 probably?). Can't be sure if it had first person view from inside the cockpit, or third person following the plane, or if you could switch. The planes, landscapes and buildings had those early 3D graphics of the kind you saw in Test Drive III. You could fire missiles forward and I think some manner of countermeasures backwards. The most distinctive things I can remember are that you could shoot buildings (they'd best stuff like military bases in the desert, so plane hangars, radio towers) to explode them, and that you could eject from your plane, at which point the camera would focus on your pilot slowly dropping to the ground by parachute while you'd see your plane crash in the distance. Not a whole lot to go on, but I'm hoping there weren't too many of these kinds of games in that period.

Possibly TFX, which I played the poo poo out of. Got it on a CD with D/Generation, Push-Over, and some RPGs, though I’m sure it also had a standalone release. e: The ejection thing sounds incredibly familiar. I have a very distinct memory of playing F19 Stealth Fighter when I was like 5 and asking my mom what the cold war was after seeing it as a mission type. She gave me the sigh that I eventually learned meant "I have housework to do today and now my son is asking about major historical events again" I also distinctly remember bragging about cheating at the game Uncharted Waters because I realized the cities match up with the atlas, and she didn't have the heart to tell me I tricked myself into learning Mediterranean geography

Jetfighter 2 and TFX look very likely to be what I'm remembering, I'll go look for them tonight and report back. The last detail I can remember is the chowchowchow noise of firing a barrage of missiles, but that's kind of hard to relay through text. Thanks guys!
