Yup, you have it right about weapon being the most important, and others have covered the other equipment already. You can do the tomestone grind, but you can also straight up buy an i350 HQ crafted weapon off the marketboard, usually for under 1m gil. You can then spend 700 creation tomestones (which will quickly become obsolete) and upgrade that to an i360 HQ weapon in Rhalgr's Reach. If weapons for your class are being price gouged (check the price history) you have a couple options to get around that. The first is to just see if you can pick up the materials yourself and find a friendly goon crafter to donate their time. The second is that the upgrade system works by converting all NQ and HQ i350 items into various amounts of tokens, which you then trade in for whatever upgraded item you want. Any combination of items from any class that gets you to 27 or more tokens will get you the i360 weapon of your choice. You could, for example, buy 3 HQ accessories of any class (worth 9 tokens each) and trade them in for 1 HQ i360 weapon. My experience was that i330 creation and Rabanastre gear got phased out real dang fast. As soon as you hit the minimum iLevel requirements you start flowing dungeon gear up to i345, i350 sigmascape normal gear, and i360 Lighthouse gear. I dumped 2000 creation into gear for my newly leveled secondary class and literally the next day I replaced it all before I had even run a single dungeon with it. For mendacity tomestones, personally I looked up which upgraded i370 tomestone gear was considered best in slot and started picking that up first instead of trying to save for a mendacity weapon which is at least 7 weeks of crystalloids for the i360, and already eclipsed by the i365 weapon I picked up from the new EX Trial. By the time I actually start getting clears for the i370 upgrade, I'll have more than enough time to start saving up the tomestones. So I finally figured out how to make the loving game stop zooming in on my character when I change zones, in case anyone else is annoyed that they have to scroll the zoom back out after they accidentally eat a mechanic that they couldn't see once. End = Default Camera Position Ctrl + End = Set Default Camera Position Ctrl + Shift + End = Reset Default Camera position. This dictates the default zoom and camera angle that your camera starts at when you zone, or go into a duty.

It's really a shame that the companion replacement system Yoshida talked about way back when never came to be. Would've been awesome for the Palico instead of just getting a minion.

The Monster Hunter crossover apparently requires level 70 and completing the 4.0 MSQ so I expect this is a permanent thing rather than a limited time special FATE. After all, telling monhun-only players that they need to spend a month or two leveling to participate (or buy jump potions) would be kind of a dick move if it's only live for a couple weeks.
