King Diamond tour has me all excited. Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats are really cool too.

Sounds like I'm gonna go see Nile on 11/12 and King Diamond on 11/14. That's a quality mid week concert binge.

extremely uninspired songwriting, chuggy riffs that sound like an even worse Six Feet Under, an attempt to add electronic elements that just falls totally flat. it's just not good.

Couple cool things I saw over the weekend:

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/tom-g-warrior-celtic-frost-hellhammer-interview-848041/

Good interview with Tom G. Warrior. Good read, and Tom is one of the realest ones.

This is the full set with soundboard recordings from the show at KIT. One of the most emotional shows I've ever been to, I spent at least half the set crying like a baby. A must watch if you're a Manilla Road fan.

The roster for it was stacked as well:

Guitars:
Kostas Tzortzis- (BattleroaR)
Kalli – (Masters of Disguise)
Gianluca Silvi- (Battle Ram, DoomSword)
Tann Ironsword – (Ironsword)

Bass:
Phil Ell Ross (Manilla Road)
Jarvis Leatherby (Night Demon)
Leif Edling (Candlemass)

Drums:
Rick Fisher (Manilla Road)
Randy Foxe (Manilla Road)
Andreas Neudi Neuderth (Manilla Road)

Vocals:
Bryan Patrick (Manilla Road)
Marta Gabriel (Crystal Viper)
Jake Rogers – (Visigoth)

The Unspoken King was a massive departure from Cryptopsy's usual style, but there are a couple of decent songs. I wouldn't consider it nearly as big of a disaster as Illud, probably because most of what made that one so bad was David Vincent. King was still a Cryptopsy album, but with some seriously out of character creative choices.

I still think of Unspoken King as a really great Metalcore album, not a good Cryptopsy one.

I dunno, fans of Combichrist? whatever imaginary audience David Vincent thought there was for his lovely industrial music? Hellyeah fans? it's a clear attempt at a more "mainstream" sound if you ask me, can't write it off as ~experimenting~

anyway I listened to 1184 today and wanna know anywhere to get Windir merch that's not bootleg? is Season of Mist's shop legit?

i mean selling out kinda implies trying to reach a larger audience and i'm not sure the overlap of people who like lovely gabber beats and even shittier death metal is all that huge

if anything it's totally kvlt to piss away any goodwill you might have had left by dropping a steaming turd after not releasing an album in nearly a decade and reuniting with your most famous lead singer

Very excited to finally get to see King Diamond live later in the year.

Clicking around on bandcamp brought me to some interesting death metal:

https://ceaselessdischarge.bandcamp.com/album/the-color-of-pain I guess people are running out of good Souls game names to use...or are finally coming to the best names?

From casual listens, pretty competent and straightforward death metal.

At the Heart of the Swarm
I'm pretty sure Trey himself had a hand in most of the bullshit on Illum too, not just David Vincent. I know I heard that back when it came out, googled now and found some quotes off toiletovhell.

“I did three songs that were definitely a whole new approach. One was based on industrial hardcore, one was based on speedcore and one was based on terrorcore, which are inspirations I’ve been getting into lately as far as electronic music.” – Trey Azagthoth

“When Trey was working on this material, I walked into the studio and heard stuff that didn’t even sound like a guitar.” – Vincent

I think the two most death metal songs on the album were written by the new guy in the band.

40 Watt Sun is basically Warning, part II (it’s 2/3 of Warning including the main guy). The Inside Room is nearly as good an album as WFaD.
