Yeah I wonder how the computery parts will be with it to support transmissions, etc. For some, the benefit of an electric motor means no transmission right?

I don't think we've seen anything about Chevy's since they showed off that electric K5 at SEMA last year.

those outputs look like yoke/shaft outputs, so my guess is that you install this in place of the transmission, and then use the under-hood space for batteries

or if fwd, space over the motor i guess idk

I'm sad i didn't get a good pic, but when i got rid of that forklift i had, the only wheels/tires i had handy that would bolt on to it to get it moving were the chromies and wide white walls off my Lincoln. unfortunately i had already scrapped all the wire wheel caps.

The beer distribution companies around here used to give out Chevy Astros as take home vehicles. Once a salesperson made management, the tradition was to buy a set of mag wheels for your van. Same size, but different wheels from stock.

My uncle used to think this was pretty funny. When he went to being an independent delivery contractor (from working as an employee), his first truck was a 2000 GMC box truck with shiny Alcos, straight back dual exhaust pipes, headers, pod intake, bigger brakes, a stupidly high ratio gear, and a shift kit. It was a gloriously stupid truck to drive around town.

Well considering the aluminator is 20 grand I doubt it. I would imagine that motor will be similar in price then you will need a battery pack and charge controller. So like probably 30k for just those things.

Electric motors are super simple compared to an engine so I'm not sure that comparison is fair. Can't imagine it would be that expensive but who knows.

I've not watched the last couple of Binky episodes so I hadn't realised how big those arches are. They look very obvious painted that colour, the ones I'm used to seeing on Minis are either black or carbon. Body coloured ones kinda make the car look older than it is.

Somehow it looks so... mundane? in a still photo all assembled. After all that work and fabrication I expected it to glow slightly or something.

Maybe it'll be different once there's footage of it driving around.

I think they've put effort into making it look as mundane/stock as they can throughout the build. The were very against changing any body sheetmetal (other than the flares), lengthening the wheelbase, or even putting a scoop/power bulge on the hood for more clearance. They also didn't go overboard with the paint.

It's going to be one of those things where from 20 feet away you think "huh, that's kind of neat", then once you get closer you see how much work actually went into it. Something along the lines of "if you do it right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all".

If anyone ever sees these guys at a car show, walk up to Binky and say "oh wow, that bolted right in, huh?"

The paint is way overboard, but in an extremely subtle way. It's not like they painted it neon green with flashing LEDs in the undercarriage. It's intended to look like a very boring, stock Mini until you look closely. Only then does the "holy poo poo" set in.
