See, here's the thing, and this is the last I'm saying about Bernie vs Hillary. Bernie may have been able to snipe WI and MI, but I don't think he would have been able to take PA or potentially VA, if we go by primary performances. Without PA, there's nothing to be done.

Thoguh posted:Equating all immigration is part of the problem. poo poo like 'most US Nobel Prize winners are immigrants!' rings hollow because all but a small group of super racists want to completely shut the borders to any type of immigration. Bringing in smart and successful people who go through the process isn't what a working class person is opposed to. They're opposed to having competition for the dwindling number of low skill jobs from people who accept terrible pay and working conditions because they are even more desperate than everybody else. Can't get rid of supply without addressing demand. You can literally kick 100% of the illegal immigrants out of the country and as long as there are American companies who hire them they will return. Deport all the business owners who use undocumented immigrant labor imo. This includes all the agriculture corporations that post massive profits while exploiting slave-labor.

This is so stupid for so many reasons. 1) Bernie was very effective at turning out young and midwestern/rural voters 2) He was also effective at minority outreach, yes clinton won with lations and black people, but Bernie won with arab americans and native americans 3) It was the Dem primary, both candidates were pretty good on minority issues. I have no doubt he would have been able to turn out clinton voters in the general.

Nae-naeing on Ellen is the pinnacle of black outreach. There's no chance Bernie could have done something that reflected an actual conversation and engagement with issues facing black communities.

Eh Bernie's primary campaign was a clusterfuck. He would have made different mistakes. We'll never know if they would have been fatal. But in the end this might work out better? A dramatic failure of the business wing of the democrats, and what's probably going to be a really disappointing tears for R voters while a bad but energizing time for Ds. Bernie getting obstructed to hell isn't going to lead to motivated midterm voters probably.

This is what infuriates me. It's totally possible, even likely, that with a better candidate or better run campaign, we would've won this. However, even on that much happier timeline we'd still be playing perpetual defense on the Presidency and Senate, while never taking the house and watching Republican legislatures burn down their states and set increasingly impossible districts every 10 years. Don't think I have forgotten all the people in the liberal twitter/blog crowd that sneered at Freddie as a "brogressive" and basically called him a racist for pointing out that safe space academic babble is political suicide.
