In a statistically impossible coincidence, all the boss-backed candidates managed to win the coveted ballot spots! Shocking, I know. In a supposedly random drawing, Essex County’s bosses managed to win the top spot in all four boxes. What luck! Previously I stated that a winning streak like this was statistically impossible, that’s not precisely true. The chances of party-endorsed candidates winning all four prime-time ballot boxes is actually 4.2%. Thanks to the egg heads on the editorial page for doing the math.

Essex County’s bosses either have incredible luck or they’re cheating. They’re not exactly using a fool-proof state-of-the-art system to hold the random drawings. In this day and age of pocket-sized super computers and artificial intelligence, New Jersey’s political parties are helping decide the fate of democracy with a bingo tumbler.

Candidates names go on a slip of paper, the slip of paper goes in a little ball, the little ball goes in the salad spinner and a partisan county clerk eventually fishes one out. According to election lawyers there’s all sorts of shady stuff you can do to the balls to tip the scales, including scratching, weighting and even freezing the little suckers. Even in the unlikely event that there’s nothing untoward happening, there is simply no reason to leave it up for debate. There is a random number generator at arms length on your phone, leave the bingo drum at the rec center and move into the 21st century.

Of course, there’s no motivation for the party bosses to change the current system, where they were the winners of a random drawing system that just happened to award them with a 17-candidate win streak. It’s a rough look when your average fantasy football draft has more integrity than the democratic process.

Oh god. Oh god I just had an Alex Jones chicken-fried-steak moment and I think it all downloaded into my head at once.

A trans woman ("man" with a beard, naturally) comes across domestic life (the house, a symbol of The Natural Family), barges inside for no reason (a violation for existing). Consumes all that The Natural Family has honorably created (the soup). In the process, she ruins womanhood (the color-coded chair) forever. The family returns, realizes their tranquil life is ruined by the trans woman's intrusion, and the child is forever scarred (look at those peepers). The family confronts the trans woman, but she has literally erased the concept of the family, indicated by the empty picture frames. Large window is positioned directly to the right of the confrontation, the reader is encouraged to imagine what happens next.

I think I got cursed with a peek behind the curtain of Tats' mindset that no sane individual was ever intended to see.

In case you missed it, Rebel Blob posted the explanation for that comic near the bottom of the last page. I mean, putting the poo poo-Stealin' Jew in a dress is almost certainly another dig at trans women because Tats is, at this point, a gelatinous blob composed solely of antisemitism and terfiness, but there's other stuff going on there.

Is this comic based on a real speech? I ask as both the look of the Jewish speaker and the specific phrasing of "I dont deserve applause, that makes me feel uncomfortable." Seem like references rather than some Tats came up with.

As someone with a bunch of weird social anxieties, the original 3rd panel definitely feels real. Something innocuous (in this case applause) setting off a panicked, wide eyed flight or fight response unexpectedly. It's another reason I think this is in reference to a video of a speech Tats saw and ascribed sinister motives to someone who just doesn't like public speaking.
