The videos this page means youtube is now suggesting this to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgKFJisceOw I guess most decades are wild in some way or another, but the 80's were pretty special. I was still being brought to church every sunday at that point, and the subliminal messages paranoia was extremely real. The sunday school teacher would play scary expose documentaries about how metal was literally satan talking to us. The fact that it actually went to trial just shows up stupid people got about music back then. We seem much more enlightened today.

Judas Priest are this combination of deeply silly and that is just kind of perfect. This is probably the best live Priest youtube video I've seen. Several songs here, but I want to single out Freewheel Burning because it's pure gibberish and it's great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRjrzpa38-0&t=363s

Just came across this band from Portland, Petrification. They have a demo and an album from 2018 and I love both. It’s just my style of crusty old school death metal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc_ykdw7MWU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISEQHYEtExI

Listening back to CoB/Kalmah/all that good old poo poo makes me miss the hell out of metal bands writing catchy riffs and really memorable melodies around every corner. Even the older more raw CoB is full of hooks. There’s something about a shreddy super talented band focusing on writing fun to listen to music that always does it for me. There are a lot of indulgent sections in CoB songs but they get stuck in your head just like a great chorus would.

I somehow missed this from a few weeks back, but Magic the Gathering's new set is Norse Mythology themed (sweet metal band font on the booster packs) and they did a cool featurette with Amon Amarth and friends revealing new cards, and the guys from Rhapsody pulling out their Italian prints of vintage magic cards lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR1F6D-Hv4o Kilometers Davis posted:Listening back to CoB/Kalmah/all that good old poo poo makes me miss the hell out of metal bands writing catchy riffs and really memorable melodies around every corner. If you like CoB and Kalmah there's a band from that era with equally amazing riffs, Synestesia. Most have never heard of them because they are Finnish language only and don't advertise: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lw19gu1-actGHbx32704oBm8ffYnDaj2w Most of their albums are on Spotify, against all odds.
