He woulda been jtf2 the only special force unit in the world the yanks consider better than the SAS. Also it's jtf2 because the minister thought it would add mystery with everyone going "what happened to jtf1?" Anyways watched cast a deadly spell last night and I liked the subtle nods to Lovecraft work (instead of the overt) like Borden's club being called the dunwhich room.

Early reports of the standalone movie will be 90% black/African actors. I love it.

I was watching the new xmen movie last night and I doubt it's intentional but the convoluted time line of the movies might be the best comic book reference I've seen in a movie. The xmen series has entirely too many branching timelines and dimensions and it sounds like a convoluted mess by itself so it's neat the movies go the same way.

Found my UK DVD copy and right enough the letter and newspapers etc were all in French. I've got Ratatouille on Blu-Ray. Changing the audio language will actually change entire scenes, as the languages on posters/letters/etc will also change dynamically. Examples include the aforementioned mother's letter, and the condemned poster that the food safety inspector pastes on the restaurant door towards the end of the movie.

I just recently saw The Nice Guys, and I recognized a thing, but it wasn't subtle in how it was implicated, just in how it was implemented. So the smog in the city is a big focal point of the main Person of Interest's worldview, being that she is a very important person's daughter, and that is main focus of her protests against the smog involving how it kills The Birds. Ryan Gosling's character is a PI whose 13 year old daughter keeps sneaking along on the wildly inappropriate and sex-riddled cases, and Gosling has two separate, major freakouts about Bees. The main plot eventually revolves around finding and saving a porn flick before it can be destroyed, because it has national secrets on it. So they keep playing fast and loose on the Birds and the Bees in the film, with sex being a major and often uncomfortable plot point, while two daughters rebel against their parental figures for being too controlling... but nothing's really done with it? It feels like a sloppy easter egg slapped into the movie that didn't pan out with audiences no matter how it was fine-tuned, and it was too heavily intertwined with the film to just outright cut it, so they just kept some lovely Sex Talk non-jokes and left it at that. Are they really going for a broad "overbearing parents unable to deal with the birds and the bees" joke here that totally falls flat against the rest of the movie?

For a while I used to watch R5 releases (Russian rips) and even 10 years ago, they were doing dynamic changes of important signs and titles. Titles are easy, but I remember watching Wanted (lovely movy btw) but p much every important in-movie sign was changed to Russian.

That's probably because the director is Russian so he probably made sure extra effort was put in there.

Afaik they don't morph, it's just they've prepared the video for certain markets. I guess they can just make mini-scenes on a DVD/BR so when a thing is on the screen, it's chosen depending on the language setting in the menu

I think my favorite thing along these lines is that Vin Diesel recorded his "dialogue" from Guardians of the Galaxy in every language the movie was going to be released in, so audiences around the world wouldn't be deprived of all that gravel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xliy6ZZd1Ik Granted it's really only one line, but still pretty cool. Apparently he recorded it while standing on a pair of stilts in order to better capture being a giant tree man

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) had at least a French and English version of the threatening note so it's older than the millenium.

# ? May 31, 2016 10:22 |

Now I wonder how they would do or did it in Dutch, specifically the pronunciation of Groot, because 'groot' means large in Dutch, so it would work whether they chose to pronounce it the English way (as a name) or the Dutch way (as a name and/or adjective). It would be a pretty funny coincidental pun.

I thought it was a nice touch that in Keanu Sharktank pulled off the wall flip, and Tectonic played it off as "It ain't my flip day, we alternate flip days. Tomorrow I'll flip the gently caress out that wall son", and then literally the next day, he ends up doing a flip in the gunfight.
