I don't think that will happen but I think they'll move on climate enough that it renders the core promise of the greens a non starter and a lot of people will be happy enough with that.

I agree, the ALP could erase what remains of the Greens by adopting their policies and staunchly implementing them. But lol.

I wouldn't expect them to take on anything other than a portion of their climate change stuff and that will be enough. They're not going to go any further than that and it will only be done when it's absolutely necessary.

clusterfuck posted:The media will give the ALP a little blowjob first, for half a term, just to be sure there'll be no regulation. Zingers for everyone, whatever. Starved of attention, the ALP will gratefully lap it up while continuing to constantly dabble at being corrupt shitlords. Then the media will pivot as you describe. The tease before the slap guarantees more Rudd tears from the once proud hard nosed political monsters. While this is certainly an expected sequence of events, one of the disturbing results of the Victorian election was that the electorate completely ignored mainstream media characterisations of the policies and issues. The Murdoch media simply had no purchase on the electorate, but nor did anyone else, and this was compounded by the dearth of polls to hang a narrative on. You can see from the 20/20 hindsight the media busied itself with in the last week that not only did it not have any idea where the electorate was going, it knew very well how badly the Liberal party were doing and could not spin it at all. Months of African gangs and evil firefighter narrative down the drain. So I think we could see an altogether weakened media approach to the next government. I'm not pretending they'll play it any differently, but just like the Liberals, they've been in denial for quite a long time, eventually that has to give.

Liberal MP Craig Kelly - who sits on the House of Representatives' environment and energy committee - told Fairfax Media that if the children were serious about combating climate change they should forgo ice creams and hamburgers. Lotta right-wing comments out there about how these kids need to learn some science. It is interesting how the reactionary mind juggles contempt and respect for something at once. Also per Bolt the education system has been hijacked by the Left and the Liberals will rue not taking the culture wars seriously.
