Mine doesn't do this, but my lovely new thinkpad resets my two external monitors ICC profiles to it's own every time I redock it (despite me setting their own as defaults everywhere in windows that you possibly can) It's extra awesome because it's not even like I can ignore it and just fix it when I go to do photo stuff - the Lenovo's panel was so ridiculous blue that setting my other monitors to it's profile makes them look like a dehydrated persons pee.

I used a Spyder to calibrate both monitors and they're actually pretty close and seem colour accurate.

Thanks for the help guys. Ended up going with a used D600 through KEH (EX+ rating) for $900 over the D610 refurb, saving $250. Hopefully it doesn't break, and if people convince that's an overwhelmingly retarded decision over a difference of $250 then I have two weeks to get my money back

Considering the D600 and D610 are virtually identical, save for a (debatable) fixed oily sensor issue, i think you came out ahead.

Yeah, I just have a problem with overthinking every purchase I make. Right now I keep imagining that refurbished automatically means when in reality it could have come back to Nikon for any number of reasons. For all I know the D600 could have been used very little and then exchanged for something else - I'm starting to gather that photography and music is similar in that some people buy and then sell equipment regularly, and used doesn't always mean 'it's gonna break in a week'. And I guess I can always send it in to Nikon for sensor cleaning once the warranty is about to run out and hope they replace it with a D610...

I buy and sell Canon L-lenses regularly. The top end lenses retain their value for several years. Brand new lenses lose around 10-20% of their value instantly when they are used, then retains that value for several years. Heck the Canon 80-200 Magical Drainpipe is more expensive now than it was when it released around 20 years ago (in my market, which admittedly is very small, and also because it is sort of a collectors item) Luckily for me i have even MADE money on several of the lenses.

They'll replace the affected parts with their brand new D610 counterparts, giving you a bit more longevity in your camera.

Anyone have a recommendation for a cloth dark enough to block direct car headlights at night? I want to drape it in front of the lens when cars drive through my long exposures.

I've been looking at gear porn at work and doing internet window shopping and saw a few deals. First is I noticed that Rx100 III have been holding their steady price of ~$800 at Amazon and B&H, however, I've notice that if you do a google shopping search on it, you'll see a bunch of listings in the $650 range. My guess is they're grey market and they're so cheap because the US dollar is so strong right now. Might be good for other cameras/ brands as well. Even Leica just recently advertised a 12% off everything sale due to the strong dollar. I don't think I've seen such high grey market savings before, I think it's now worth it. Secondly, Canon is having a Black Friday in July sale on some of their refurbished gear. Refurb stuff from Canon is usually a pretty good deal and when it goes on sale, it's a great deal. Lastly, B&H Is Currently Selling A Fuji X-Pro1 And 2 Lens Kit For $900 Off. It's an Xpro1 with a 27 2.8 and a 35 1.4. Unfortunately it says it's out of stock right now, but it says more coming soon and you can place a order for shipping 1-2 weeks out. Worth a shot if this is something you really want.

With Nikon, do they flat outright refuse to touch any model that was purchased outside of the area, or is it skewed more towards not supporting anything bought from countries that are cheaper. I'm hoping I'll never need to service my UK bought D7200 when I move to the US if that's the case.

Sony, atleast with their phones, claim there are localisation issues and make you post it to the original country. It's bullshit, if there were issues the Australian firmware wouldn't work on a Hong Kong phone but they just have to do everything they can to squeeze their dollars out of you. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Nikon had a similar policy for their cameras. Just don't tell them its a British camera.

Every region of these companies is an independent entity - if Australia doesn't have a hard and fast policy that's one thing. Canon USA is known for also doing warranty covered repairs of gray market items and their ticket system doesn't reject them outright , but conversely tamron USA for example, the second you enter a non us serial in their system it rejects it and calls you a filthy thief. If Nikon USA has a policy like Tamrons (we won't even repair it for money) safe money is that they also have a gate for that process like Tamron does

The only time trying a few times and waiting until you get a rep who doesn't care or cares enough to sort out a solution hasn't worked, I ended up getting a refund cause it died under normal use in 2 days and I bought another one. Maybe Australia is better for this, but generally phone reps bend over backwards for you provided you treat them like people and they don't work for an ISP or a telecom or something.

I'm retarded and got some windex in my lens cap - now it is really stiff and 'sticky', making it hard to use. Is it safe / will it work to dip it in some rubbing alcohol to loosen it up? edit: Or will water do the trick? Fake James fucked around with this message at 02:24 on Jul 28, 2015 |

I'd just use a water dampened microfiber cloth to get the residue off (paper towel will work too but might leave lint). As for types of cleaners, I'd stay away from anything that's not made for camera lenses. I really don't have any evidence to support this claim but it seems like IPA will wear away/damage the coating on the lens. I used to use those alcohol drenched sunglass wipes on my lenses but after while it seemed like it did something to the coating. I'm sure someone will say different, but that's just what it seemed like for me. For most cleaning jobs, I just use a Lens Pen. I also keep a few Hoodman Lens Cleanse Wipes in my bag for messier jobs.

When I worked at adorama we only had alcohol, kimwipes, microfiber cloth and windex in particularly tough cases for cleaning lenses. We cleaned like a thousand lenses a week this way in the used department. It basically comes down to technique.

It's in the hindges, can't quite just wipe it off... I'll try the water first though. Just noticed there were some sticky spots on the lens - now I'm not sure if it was windex or if something else got in there...

Wait were you literally talking about the front lens cap? What are you worried about? Just run the thing under a tap and wipe your lens off with a cloth or something.

Just wasn't sure if water would flush it out or if rubbing alcohol would be the best course is all. I was surprised as hell that windex gunked it up really badly, so I didn't want to get anything else in it that could mess with it, no matter how innocuous it should be. Completely realizing now how simple and dumb of a question it was.

I'm surprised windex ends up as sticky residue. I think it's more likely it hosed up the plastic of your lens cap in some way and washing it won't make a difference - get a new lens cap.
