One of my favorite explanations for why you should buy gold is as an investment for if/when poo poo hit the fan. Apparently those holding gold would be the backbone of a post-apocalyptic nuclear holocaust America. Those with food, water, and fuel would gladly trade said limited resources for some shiny lumps of metal.

Although the gold selling companies pretty much all just sell you a certificate entitling you to get gold from their warehouse somewhere, so you don't even actually get the shiny metal to try to barter with.

All the downsides of cash with all the costs of gold!

Listened to Hannity for a few minutes while I was outside wrenching on my bike and it seems he's "just asking questions" about the apparent deportation order for the Saudi national. This is going to be the new thing, isn't it. Obama ordering him to be deported to protect and conceal the real culprit while pinning it on a homegrown source. That's where this will all be going.

It's already gone there according to some articles I've read today. People like Geller and Beck are already running with it.

Also, a lot of articles are predicting that immigration reform is gonna go the way of gun reform. Levin, Limbaugh and Demint have all come out and said they can not support Rubio's plan. Apparently Rubio was on Levin yesterday and then Levin posted on his facebook page today that he doesn't support Rubio's plan. So much for GOP outreach.

There were a number of prominent Saudis who were quickly flown out of the country for fear that a hysterical public might start hanging any Middle-Easterner they could lay their hands on from the nearest lamppost. Prudent move on the part of the government.

The conspiracy theory was that Saudi nationals and the Bin Laden family were ferried out while flights were still grounded and before the FBI could question them, when they actually left shortly after flights started up again and were already cleared to leave by then. I don't think any members of the Bin Laden's relatives were involved, but I'm not 100%.

All he got out was 'I'm _______ from Infowars.com and...' and then the lead investigator started talking over him and asking for the next question. You could then kind of hear the infowar guy in the background shouting out things about photographs and FBI lies throughout the rest of the short press conference. Don't know how they keep slipping into these press conferences.

What Infowars had to say:

quote:

FBI Ignores Men With Backpacks At Scene of Boston Bombings

The FBI has attempted to blacklist photos which show men working for a private military organization wearing heavy backpacks and appearing to take part in a drill at the Boston Marathon, instead focusing on two other individuals while proclaiming, “other photos will not be deemed credible.”

As Infowars has documented over the last two days, photos taken from the scene of the blast show numerous individuals wearing identical clothing while carrying heavy black backpacks, talking into cellphones and in one case placing one of the backpacks on the ground.

Infowars reporter Dan Bidondi was at the FBI press conference and attempted to get questions answered about bomb drills that eyewitnesses said were taking place on the morning of the marathon, but was ignored and subsequently confronted by two large men at the end of the conference.

In not only ignoring but aggressively attempting to discredit the photos showing men who are likely employees of the private security firm Craft International on the scene of the bombings engaged in some kind of drill, the FBI has signaled its intention to continue the cover-up of what really happened.

Oh, you mean the private security contractors that were hired to beef up security at a major sporting event, a common practice among city police departments with stretched personnel resources when they must secure a portion of the city while continuing to provide their services to the remainder? Like, I know arguing with morons that believe the Infowars bullshit is futile, but holy poo poo is it infuriating.

The most :psyduck: thing I saw was while I had CNN rolling in the background while I did other things, and one of their interviews on the scene of the press conference had to be stopped in the middle of a conversation to ask a shouting guy in the background to get the hell away from their camera. Looks like the far right will be pushing to end immigration reform based around the fact that the Boston Marathon bombers legally immigrated here (as children, I believe).

Here's Greg Sargent's writeup of a few statements.

I don't think young Hispanics who immigrated as children will take to being compared to Eastern European terrorists but okay, if you think that'll work, go ahead.

This isn't related to the Marathon ranting going on today (and frankly I could go without hearing it too, god it must be awful today) but I wanted to ask you guys where a certain insane thing Sean Hannity always says about Democrats came from.

First he was saying something like "they say Republicans want dirty air, dirty water and to throw Grandma off the cliff, let kids with Autism and Down's Syndrome fend for themselves..." which is of course a big group of out-of-context misquotes....but lately his "Grandma" line has evolved into "and they say we want to punch, stab, kick, beat Grandma with a baseball bat before slicing her throat and throwing her off the cliff.."

What in the everloving gently caress is wrong with this guy? I'm not usually the squeamish type but isn't he worried just a little what his own kids might think hearing him spread such obvious false hatred and vitriolic bile such as this? This is weird to me because, for as often as I have subjected myself to his "show" over the years, this is as graphic as I have ever heard him get. Does anyone have a line on this one and what the original "thing that Obama or another famous Democrat said" that he even gets this from is?
