We'll always have Cabo
This emulation news is pretty rad because it means I can use the little Beelink (sorry, just little Beelink) I bought as just a plex server now.

Well this is something I didn’t know you could do… if you have a Mac and an ATV on the same network you can open an instance of QuickTime Player, choose Movie Recording, then in the window that opens hit the arrow to change source and pick the AppleTV. Et voila, Apple TV showing on the Mac without additional hardware.

I tried with Tubi and it worked fine, gonna guess some HDCP or DRM bullshit might apply but it’s neat nonetheless.

Isn’t that just basically reverse AirPlay though?

Yeah kinda reverse in the way which you trigger it (on the receiving client rather than the one playing back), although it does seem specifically for capturing and recording rather than playing back live (but nothing to stop that either. I presume audio works, but I didn't have my speakers up when I tried. For me, audio isn't an issue as I want to make silent screen recordings of interface stuff etc)

Has anyone upgraded their ATV while it's a homekit hub?

I have a 4k 1st gen acting as the homekit hub for our house. I'd like to move it to bedroom TV duty so I bought a new ATV 4k.

The 1st gen has One Home Screen turned on and icloud stuff is all signed in. The internet says that all I have to do is unplug the 1st gen, plug in the new, sign in with the Apple ID that was using the 1st gen and all will be good.

Will all be good? :ohdear:

Yeah, honestly you should be fine. I use multiple, so it wasn’t a swap, but I just got a 3rd Apple TV, and after signing in it downloaded all of my apps and Home Screen.

Yeah everything is fine, and since matter or thread or whatever is going, a lot of poo poo is like instantly responsive now. I’ll have to see about getting the hue hub switched over
