i have to say though the one thing black metal has going for it is how goofy serious it is. there's something about black metal dudes being so genuinely into such a goofy thing and not realizing how goofy it is it somehow makes it more endearing (and I'm talking about trve kvlt dudes into the music, not referencing Varg's nazi poo poo). It's the same reason why I love Mortician so much. Will is just like "yeah i make these songs that are mostly samples and have a goofy rear end Sons of Anarchy rip off death metal club" and he's just 100% genuine about something so fuckin ridiculous. Conversely i've never really been able to get into power metal because they always seem to be "in on the joke" so to speak. Like they know how goofy it is and while they may genuinely love it they are AWARE that they're goofy and there's kinda a wink/nod to the listener.
