Realistically if the results cut the way YouGov are projecting Labour just has to work out a deal with SNP and Libs, I'd imagine Plaid and the Greens would get left out in the cold dealwise with assumption they will back a Labour budget without any bones being thrown their way. I'm estimating about 6 SF seats which will bring the majority number down to 322, on a bad day NI will otherwise cut 10 Tory backing unionist, 1 independent (who's no fan of the Tories and has made it clear they will not vote in favour of a Corbyn government so possible abstention) and 1 SDLP (who would back Labour) - On a good day 8 Unionist, 2 SDLP, the same independent and 1 Lib aligned Alliance

I know I'm going to SAY I'll only watch the exit poll at 10pm, then what I actually will do is spend all night watching what little hope I have for this country have a fresh pile curled out on it. Then I'll look at the migration guidelines for various other countries. Then I'll look at my bank account and realize I can barely afford to live here, let alone another country. Then I'll weep.

50 seat Tory majority, May won't see another GE, Corbyn out in a month but the bastard who replaces him will be doomed too. Maybe the one after will realise the appeal of Corbyn's policies. I don't gamble, sorry

OrthoTrot posted:No one will be able to change the thread title. All the UK will be partying. A lot of people will be making GBS threads themselves if he wins. There is some real genuine fear about Corbyn in some quarters that he will be a literal catastrophe for the nation, albeit generally based on misinformation. On a slightly different note, yesterday I had the wonderful pleasure of hearing someone who lives in a loving huge mansion beside a river with acres of beautiful grounds bitch and moan that they might need to be paid more than the already obscene amount of money they're already asking for if the result is the wrong one on Thursday. The thought of the corporate tax rate increasing to 26% filled her with horror, despite me pointing out that it used to be 30% in recent memory and nobody died. It's going to be so epic if he wins. Edit: I guess that neatly illustrates the danger of slowly moving tax rates lower and lower over time; memory is short. Prince John fucked around with this message at 16:42 on Jun 7, 2017 |

I'm just brushing up on my (recent) history of the 2010 UK government formation. So... is it accurate that the Lib Dems prioritized a coalition with the Tories not because of ideological overlap or policy objectives, but just because the Tories had the most seats? Was that considered a noble position to take as King-makers?

Pardon my ignorance, but why is everyone freaking out about the front page headlines in tabloids? Doesn't everyone know they're garbage right-wing trash? It just seems odd, the reaction during the American election last year when Fox News did something dumb was "Fox News is dumb, anyone still watching it at this point is unreachable." Is that not the case in the UK? Do people actually take the tabloids seriously?
