I had a "real one" in St Ives earlier this year. Massive queue to actually get one It was alright, not much different from anywhere else, as you say Jose

Jose posted:Agreed but you know every Cornish person will claim you've never had a real one like there will be any difference I don't particularly like pasties (to the eternal shame of my poor Cornish mum) but inevitably when someone says "pasties are rubbish" they've just eaten a Ginsters or Greggs abomination, which is like claiming all Italian food is poo poo because you just had a Pizza Hut.

as long as its british food, the cornish pasty will be mediocre at best. thats the rule cornwall must cornwaxit to have any culinary hope

Jel Shaker posted:I’m going to bake a Cornish pasty out of the stuff that makes a scone and start a riot Scones are basically shortcrust pastry, except made with baking powder and a bit more liquid to make them lighter. I guess you could make a pasty (or other pie crust) that way but it would just kinda collapse in the meat juices. You'd end up with an extremely dry beef stew with dumplings. Now if you want to be a true pasty anarchist, make it with choux pastry. They'd be hanging you in effigy off the Tamar Bridge before it was even out of the oven.

I saw a poll of the UK for the first time and the Tories were winning it, how is that possible Is it just like the same thing as US polls where 80% of the respondents are bored scared old people with landlines or what

loquacius posted:I saw a poll of the UK for the first time and the Tories were winning it, how is that possible Possibly. The pollsters are also working under the assumption that ~30% of young people will vote this year compared to ~50% in 2017 which will affect their weighted figures.

loquacius posted:I saw a poll of the UK for the first time and the Tories were winning it, how is that possible its a weird one, its hard to tell whether its our billionaire owned press (who commision a lot of the polls or have pets running them) doing wishful thinking in order to depress the labour vote, which is the tories main strategy. Or if England really is as hellish a place as they would like it to be which is very possible. this election is gonna be a real test of corporate propaganda vs reality, it could go either way in my opinion

i think the biggest factor is how well labour can hold onto its vote, low info voters who think theyr high info voters have been making noises about voting libdem instead for some time but the libdems seem to be speedrunning the collapse of their party in 2010, this time hopefully before being in coalition with the tories the problem that raises is actually the libdems are in a position to take some seats off the tories if they werent so incredibly shite. i dont see any tories defecting to them, but i can see some lib melts deciding they cant vote for racist stalinist hitler corbyn
