Indeed, the three free ships are available besides my purchased one! Sorry for misinformation. However, I had to download all 27 GB to check, but it was worth of it.
I think Star Citizen should be more accurate when making patch descriptions.

Which actually reminds me-- did you all see that TenTonHammer basically followed up their earlier Star Marine story with a remix of the JustAGameMode.com timeline?

It's at the bottom of the story with minor additions / subtractions. They dropped the Derek Smart date-- probably to reduce inflaming their already testy SC readers. But much of the other stuff the kept. Which I think is great -- simply because the hardest person for Chris Roberts (or his financier fans) to refute is Chris Roberts.

Yeah, I had sent that to David. Also, I think it was a good idea that he kept me out of the time line.

Thought I'd try my hand at some songwriting

Since CIG tried their own ripoff of the Firefly tune, here's my own for you

Took their cash, for my purse
Gave a JPEG to immerse
I don't care, Its not free
You can't take the verse from me.

Sandi's here, her moods black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the evidence, we must flee
Please don't take my pubes from me.

Leave fat Ben where he lay
He'll never see another day
Spent the cash, chased my dream
You can't take my Coke from me.

I feel the mob reaching out
I hear their screams without a doubt
Stole their cash, gave them art
Now I'm pursed by Derek Smart

Lost my Porsche, lost our flat
Lost the last place to Mo-Cap
There's no place I can be
Since The IRS looked into Me

But you'll never take my dream from me.

voodoo.child posted:

It's an old saying, a watched pot never boils. Obviously there is no time dilation by observing water as it approaches boiling temp...

It's perspective. Time waiting while focused on the waiting passes slowly. Time waiting for something while doing something else passes quickly. So if you put a pot on the stove, and walk away, check some email, do some dishes or something... that water seems to be boiling in no time. Stand there and stare it, seems to take forever. Time waiting at the DMV passes slowest of all....

So it is with any project. If you have a house being built and are there hours a day every day checking progress... it creeps along. If you show up once a week to check on progress it's 'WOW! Look at all they got done this week!!!'

The scope and complexity of this project dwarfs most construction projects.

There are a lot of excited and impatient backers. The two combine to amplify each other. Like a kid waiting to open their christmas gifts under the tree. Or counting the days to that trip to Disneyland. I am not calling you childish, I am calling you human. It's simple human nature.

But there are a LOT of threads cluttering general regarding panic about this or that not being available on the time frame THEY decided it should be. Like the Starfarer... it might be on time (January was quoted by CR once... but we all know how soft 'deadlines' are in this business). People are arguing just like kids I like to call 'little lawyers'. You know, the 6 year old that plays a word game with their parents then pounces when they get the statement they wanted to throw it in said parent's face 'nuh uh, you PROMISED, you said that...' I call those kids 'little lawyers'. Comically, that is the exact poo poo people are actually doing, presumably over the age of 6, about a Starfarer delay that isn't even a delay yet (month ain't over folks, it might actually be on time after all). And even if it WERE delayed a week or 3... who the hell cares?!? What impact does that have on the overall game? In a year you won't even remember it was a few weeks late.

I am picking on the Starfarer thread as a specific example, but I could point to several others on page one of this board at this very moment.

Look, it's a matter of perspective.

If you find yourself going beyond excited and into 'impatient', give yourself some pause. If you pass from impatient to 'angry' or 'frustrated'....

A humble suggestion... throttle down your intake of Star Citizen development. Don't watch the pot. Tune out from 10ftC, AtV etc. Stop scouring the boards for news. Take a vacation from 'Star Citizen'. Relax. Forget all about it for... a month or two... don't watch the videos, don't hang out here. Find a new hobby or project to take up those hours in a week.

To an extent, this is kinda CIG's fault. Nothing malicious about it, just that they put out so much freaking info that A) it takes several hours a week to keep up on all of it and B) it creates a watched pot waiting to boil scenario. Not blaming CIG, it was an unintended consequence. A side effect of putting so much info out every week.

It's not your fault, you are excited, you have enthusiasm for this game... that's good. I like that. But you are getting bogged down in the minutia and your impatience is showing.

I implore you, if you reach a point where you feel a need to bitch about a tiny delay on a single ship being hanger ready, if you are picking apart the exact phrasing of what someone said 'they never said 'probably' by January, or 'hopefully... they said JANUARY!!! This is ridiculous!!! I DEMAND MY SHIP!!!!'... when you get to that point... honestly... I think you need a vacation from this project.

There is no malice in this post. Yes, there are some specific examples, but no names cited. I didn't put this reply in the thread I referred to, because it applies to dozens of others. I am not bashing you, insulting you, or wishing you harm. I actually think if you are getting that worked up over normal and forgivable delays in a complex project (yes, even Star Marine as late as it is), it will be healthier for you to walk away for while. When you come back in a while you will probably be amazed at how much progress was made. You'll be happier.

It's just a matter of perspective. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

In addition to a suggestion made to honestly get you to a happier, healthier place... I also think it's better for the project if a lot of these threads just... vanished. They aren't constructive. They aren't helping. Hundreds of posts bitching about TrackIR in 15 threads is not going to get in the game faster. Complaining that January is almost over and you still don't have a Starfarer in your hanger will not get you there faster. Critiquing CIG's project management abilities is straight up comical (sure, you know more about managing a project of this scope and complexity than CIG, whom among various heads and producers have an aggregate of a few CENTURIES of managing projects likes this... but you know better... go tell 'em how it's done!! lol)

Stop it. CIG wants feedback, not petty bitching, you are making things worse, not better. Again, I know it's root is a good thing. Excitement and enthusiasm for the project... but somewhere along the line, for many of you, that excitement has been twisted into negativity.

Put that energy into bug reports, or gameplay suggestions for a cool mission to add in, or a gameplay mechanic for planetary geology and mining... or... channel that energy for 'where's my f'ing ship, you PROMISED...' into something constructive.

And I really do think if you are getting angry about things like that (not saying all do, some are innocently asking 'weren't we supposed to have X by now?'), I sincerely think you need to walk away for bit. Come back to us after a while, relaxed and excited for the project... not pissy and whining.

I sincerely think you will be happier if you do.
