It's an absolute ton of small stuff that I really don't think I can properly get across in a small post, but keep in mind concerns of people who aren't white guys. Amplify their voice so they don't get drowned out and their ideas taken credit for. If you get a chance point out the issue with things like a hiring policy that's striving for absolute 100% certainty (that more than minimizing risk it's maximizing for implicit bias). When dealing with people outside the field, create an impression of a better field and when inside it try to live up to it. I'm sure people who aren't white dudes have others and I'd love it if they contributed them.

STEM-chat: I am a math and computer science major, and 10 years later the class that most profoundly impacted me was called "Understanding the World Through Reading", a class I took to fulfill a humanities requirement. We'd read an assigned book once a week (Grapes of Wrath, Brave New World, Catch-22, Oedipus Rex, Gulliver's Travels, etc.), write a reaction paper (literally any reaction we had to the book), and then have a 2.5 hour discussion moderated by the professor and grad student. Not only did I learn to read more thoughtfully, but I feel like that was when I started actually caring about the world beyond myself. Meanwhile, while I appreciate the new things I learned in my STEM classes and that my degrees help my resume, I don't feel like I actually learned that much in my major classes that I couldn't have just picked up on my own. Point being: nothing wrong with being a STEM person especially if you enjoy that stuff (I do), but please please be well rounded and consider having hobbies other than coding or gaming or whatever the gently caress else.

Some states, but not all, will also tell you the racial breakdown of the vote. You can get some general ideas, but sense there's no way to gauge how much of the total vote early voting will make up, you can't do much more than that.

Like, if the Dems continue to nominate people mcmagic types can't see in the mirror we're going to permanently lose a segment of white male voters. I personally am fine with that and I think the demographic changes can absorb it, but we should brace ourselves now for some panic a few cycles on when people start to notice the exodus.

mcmagic posted:He's not flawless. He would also not be sinking like a stone all around the country like she is. Oh? Says who? Please note that even if you believe the Clinton emails were responsible for any change in polls (and many polls have not shown a significant change, something you're ignoring), the emails were literally an entirely manufactured scandal. There is no reason to assume there wouldn't be something bullshit for Bernie Sanders. There's also no reason to inherently assume Sanders would have won the debates, Sanders would have the exact same minority support, Sanders would not have had any health problems (he's older than Clinton and Trump!) or countless other things. Your assumption is that a theoretical Sanders At His Best would have done better than Clinton In Reality. You're comparing an ideal to someone who actually had to campaign.
