The Shortest Path posted:Any time a format has had a clearly-defined "best deck", it has shown up consistently and pervasively in multiple large tournaments. That is not the case for Death's Shadow. The jund version was the breakout deck of that previous modern GP and almost every successful team at San Antonio had a death's shadow deck. The SCG invitational likewise had grixis DS dominate. It's put up very consistent numbers in minor tournaments and MTGO. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but this is the first major modern tournament where it didn't make a large impact, and the grixis version is relatively new when it comes to major modern tournaments along with having a massive target on its back. Regardless, it still put up very good results going into day two but my googling doesn't reveal much day two stats beyond the top 8. I play the deck and don't think it needs a ban and also think modern is in a great place right now, but if not grixis DS what is the best deck?

Falconer could be such a blowout. The humans list looks very fun. I will also say the Amonkhet masterpieces look better in person than on a computer screen, which is the opposite of the Zendikar ones. The Kaladesh ones are still better than the others.

There isn't a best deck, because Modern is a healthy format with a variety of good decks that are situationally better than each-other.

As I've already said, I agree modern is in a good state but that doesn't mean there isn't a best deck. What you haven't said is what deck is better or what tournaments outside of Vegas top 8 it hasn't put up results which earlier was an important metric for you.

I agree with everything Grifter said, but just want to add that cockatrice players are real bad (or good players who are experimenting), so keep that in mind when evaluating things. It's easy to overrate cards/decks/strategies when testing on there because everything you do will be more successful than it would be on mtgo, or against your average lgs crowd.

Last Mercy seems like possible sideboard material in Modern if you're really worried about Burn for some reason.

Hazoret's Last Outburst 1RR Sorcery Hazoret's Last Outburst deals 3 damage to target creature or player. Lands you control don't untap during your next untap step. I like that the Hour Game Day Champion playmat says Mastermind instead, though.

The blue card in the cycle is totally going to be sorcery speed "Kefnet's Last X" for 1UU that draws three Also the white one seems fun against burn
