My mom has a droid bionic and her phone will not notify her of new voicemails. I've looked through all the settings and I cannot find anything wrong. Even in the Verizon Voicemail app it says there are no messages but dialing *86 will tell her otherwise. I'm on Sprint and I use google voice so I am not familiar with verizon's VM system at all.

After you *86 in, try going to personal options by pressing 4, and check if voicemail notifications are on. You can also try turning the notifications off then on, and leaving a new message.

If you haven't received the jelly bean update for your GNex yet, clear data in the Google Services Framework and then check for updates again. It took me about 6 times but it finally popped.

Ugh, why does keeping root have to be a problem every time? There's always something. I downloaded a new su.zip but now apparently clockwork mod has disappeared from my phone. I go into recovery and it just gives me options to install from adb, usb or reset or clear the cache. Now I have to try to get these loving adb drivers working for the fourth time.

I have a question about the grandfathered data plans. I'm sure this has been asked and answered multiple times but I didn't see anything in the OP. I'm already on 4G LTE with a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I want to upgrade to an S3. Right now when I go through the upgrade process (and paying full price for the phone) on the Verizon webpage it's still letting me keep my unlimited plan. Is this something I can count on or is Verizon going to drop an axe soon? I'm eligible for the 2 year upgrade plan as well and if I'm going to lose my unlimited data plan anyway I'll just use that and save the $300. If I can count on keeping the unlimited data I'll go month to month and pay for the phone. Thanks

Is it just me or is there seemingly no correlation between signal strength and data transfer rates? I'm guessing that my results are heavily influenced by the current userbase of the LTE tower. I've done tests on 3 bars LTE in a low population area and got 10/10, but when I do it at home with a 4 bar strength and I'm guessing a higher population area I get like 3/10 at best

Backhaul and node congestion is going to have a higher influence on speed than signal strength most of the time.

No. Verizon phones are unlocked to be used on any compatible carrier (which I think is all of them) You can't use another carriers iPhone unless it's also unlocked and compatible.

Apple stores are releasing small numbers into the wild for walk-in's each day, I've gone three times now only to be met by rather large lines. AT&T is a little more in demand than Verizon, but they've both been selling out. Better off taking your chances with the "Personal Pickup" option once it becomes available later tonight. None of the Verizon stores I've been to have had any stock, and I've been told they're not getting daily resupply either.

Anyone know of a way to swap numbers without porting out our lines and porting them in? Basically we just want to switch plans but Verizon says its not possible? CS tried pushing me to use the Share Everything plan despite me noting that I just want the lines switched. It would be a hassle to do the porting but I wouldn't mind doing it if they won't budge. If it helps, the primary line (with the unlimited data) is out of contract.

That is, can you ditch Verizon, put an AT&T SIM in your RAZR MAXX, and use it on HSPA+? Or are they just doing this with the iPhone because if they didn't, it's such a high profile device that the likelihood of getting called out on it is a lot higher?

Technically, this should be the case for all of them. Though you can't hook into domestic GSM networks without a load of APN fuckery (people are still working on getting AT&T HSPA+ going on the Verizon GS3). I suppose even the Charge should have this capability, since it's an LTE phone. I need to reset my old one, anyway. May pop in my iPhone SIM to see what it does.

There are two models of iPhone being built for the world. http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html The A1429 that Verizon and Sprint are getting supports Verizon's LTE Band 13 (700c) and Sprint's LTE Band 25 (1900 PCS), and all of their CDMA bands. It also supports UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), which means it will work on AT&T's 2G and 3G HSPA+ network, but does not have their LTE Band 17 (700b). It will also work on T-Mobile's 2G network, and their 3G HSPA+ that they're building on 1900mHz. A1429 also has LTE Bands 1,3, and 5 that networks are using in other parts of the world. The A1428 for AT&T and Canadian carriers might have the CDMA hardware present, but disabled. Doesn't matter, because neither Verizon nor Sprint will activate phones from other providers. If you're cross-shopping Verizon and AT&T, an unlocked A1428 AT&T iPhone will work on T-Mobile's 1900mHz 3G and supports the AWS LTE band that T-Mobile is planning to launch next year.

I went into a Verizon store and wasn't given much help, so I'd like to see if anyone here can give me good advice. - On Saturday I'm flying to France, followed by Portugal on Thursday. This is a personal trip not sponsored by my work. - I have an iPhone 5 with an unlocked SIM card. The SIM is ready to be used overseas if I need to roam, but the rates are very expensive ($1.29 a minute for voice; $20 / MB for data). Is there a way I can get a bucket of voice and data for on the cheap without messing with my plan too much (I'm on a newer plan so there's no worry about losing unlimited data since I don't have it)? Ideally I'd like to get a cheap plan from a carrier in Europe, but I don't know what Nano SIM availability is like in europe for the iPhone5. I've checked with iphonetrip.com and they don't yet support Nano SIMs. 1) Is there a place I can definitely get a nano SIM in Europe that will work on the Verizon iPhone5? 2) Is there a way I can modify my Verizon plan to get more reasonable rates than the roaming rates (e.g.: temporary sign up for the global features for one month and then drop it when I get back)? 3) Is there something else I should be looking at doing instead? I don't have a cheap SIM-ready phone laying around to use as an alternative. Thanks for your help.

I made the move to Verizon about a week ago from T-Mobile. I got a LG Lucid and the wife got a Stratosphere, because she wanted a real keyboard. Her phone has been fine, but the Lucid has been flaky. It gets hot and reboots then shows the message that it is getting a software upgrade, and it sits for hours and hours with nothing happening. If I boot the phone up normally, then check for an update it says no updates are available. I am pretty certain that I am going to return this phone and see if they will allow me to get another model. Right now I am thinking that the Droid Razor M or the Razor Maxx would be what I would most likely pick out. Would love to hear from anyone who has experience with these models. I am sometimes in low signal areas, and the Lucid, with two bars of signal, I am barely able to be understood on a call. Thanks in advance.

I would get the Razr M over the MAXX at this point in time. The MAXX will last longer on battery, but the M gets really good battery life on it's own and has newer internals. Don't buy LG smartphones. Ever.
