It's not music but my cats tend to get really lively when I stomp around the house and scream until I'm hoarse.

I have a free roaming rabbit and when I play piano he sit at my feet. When I play bass or guitar, he hides under the couch.

I'm a much better guitar player than pianist, so I don't know

do animals like music? do they kinda just accept that there is something they are hearing but its not a threat so they just dont care and keep doing animal things? i guess this might not apply to wild animals since everything is trying to kill them or so it seems

because they have no choice in the situation. The humans listen to, and decide on the songs. If animals had a choice they would listen to Pantera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ht3XGhlfYs

The phenomena of your body synchronising to music is called entrainment. Apparently humans are the only species that have this as a rule, but some individual members of non-human animals have been observed to.

The Wikipedia article suggests we evolved this for war (getting into a “battle trance”). If war and violence created music, maybe those things are good?

One of our cats will actively attack you, mewling like crazy, if you pluck a guitar or bass string and they're in the room. Full on I will murder you attacks. Doesn't even have to be audible, electric hooked into a tuner that's making (seemingly) no noise beyond the pick hitting the string.

I also got my dogs to get fuckin hype if I listen to hardcore and that was a loving mistake. Get wiped out of the computer chair by a bloodhound cause cromags came up on shuffle.

hey op, i think they just tune it out as noise. their brains aren't self-aware pattern-recognition engines like ours. also, consider how you tune out the incessant blare of cicadas or crickets or whatever -- no intrinsic relevance.

my grandma had an African grey parrot that would bob his head along to any 2/4 polka/marchy sounding rhythm and got realllly into it, like favorite thing to do, hed start doing the headbounce without any noise to get me to do it

simpler worked better, instruments didn't work as well as just singing stuff, responded best to short "tweety" notes. when it was really simple, if i repeated it for a bit he'd start his own making noises rhythmically and adding on different little motions

id go 'bup-buppa bup-bup' over and over, move my hand around him kinda like a conductor, hed mirror the motions and treat my hand like a dance partner, like swiveling side to side, squat down/stand up, that kind of stuff, it was really neat

he's in a berd sanctuary now hanging out w/ other parrots
