Come and See is a Soviet film from 1985 that follows a boy who joins the Russian resistance against the German invasion of Byelorussia. It features unknowns and live ammunition. There are scenes where you see tracers flying over the actors' heads. Get past the goofiness in the woods at the beginning and it becomes a non-stop horror train.

That movie is so loving raw. Even the trailer is brutal.

You know who knows about movies? The people in the movie section of this place is who I would guess. Their name implies it.

Well, I saw "Waiting to Exhale" for the first time the other day, and that was pretty good. It takes place in Arizona or New Mexico or something, so it was foreign to me.

They like movies A LOT there, though. From what I understand. I don't know if you are allowed to ask them about anything, though. Someone try it...

Watch some films by Emir Kusturica like Time of the Gypsies, Black Cat, White Cat and Underground. Just check out the trailer to Underground if unsure.

This sounds like a good movie. Kierrie, did you read this? Do all the movies you watch look like this one sounds?

All the movies I watch sound like that one. I'd also recommend Yuusei Ouji. It's a Japanese science fiction film about a single hero dealing with an existential crisis while fighting off an alien invasion.

Seconding Tarkovsky recommendations. If you like Stalker, you should def read the book that it's based on. It's phenomenal and yet he translation is pretty good. City of Lost Children doesn't hold up that well 10+ years out but still worth a watch. Pretty much anything by Pedro Almodovar.

ISILDUR's ERR
gonna try to mix up a few so it's not just exactly my usual list

scandinavian:

ingmar bergman - the seventh seal, the virgin spring, winter's light in that order
nicholas winding refn - the pusher trilogy, only god forgives (you probably already saw bronson and drive and won't like valhalla rising)
(written by) anders thomas jensen: in china they eat dogs, the green butchers, wilbur wants to kill himself (much less funny and more depressing than even the trailer will suggest), first two are loving hilarious
and carl theodor dreyer if you have patience for pictures of that era

italian westerns beyond the ones you've probably already seen:

leone: once upon a time in the west
corbucci: the great silence
giulio petroni: death rides a horse
tonino valerii: day of anger, my name is nobody
sergio martino: mannaja: a man called blade
