Jesus christ, turns out I upgraded my GPU at the exact right time. The same 1060 6gb I bought for 290€ back in December now sells for 459€

Welp, I'm on the list for a 1080ti now. Hopefully I can get one before the heat death of the universe. This PC is almost 6 years old, with the exception of the video card, which is 3 years old. I run a single 24" monitor that is 1920x1200 that I've had since 2006. It's time.

Both my wife and son are on 1070s and I am a little jealous of their extra GPU power but no jealous enough to spend any real money on trying to get another card.

I built my PC in late 2013. CPU is still going strong (i7 3700k) as is the 16 gb of RAM, but I’ve upgraded my graphics card from a 760 to a 970 in 2016 and replaced both of the SSDs I use for applications/games that benefit from them. Both of my monitors are kind of small (21”) so I’d like to upgrade them in size so that way I can maximize my ~~~~eSports~~~~~ capability in the PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds. Also it’s funny to me that 4K at 60 FPS is starting to new become the hotness; when I first started gaming I remember having my mind blown running HL2 at 30 FPS at medium in 800x600.

I have an i5 2500k @ 3.7ghz and 8GB of RAM, to go along with a 120GB SSD that I bought on a black friday sale in uh...2011? It was mid-high range when I built it. It's most assuredly outclassed now in every way possible, games just fortunately aren't that demanding since I'm running it at 1920x1200. But there's exceptions. I just don't want to pay the gazillion dollars for a new system out of principle at this point.

My system is new as of August 2017, and the performance upgrade from my previous system (from 2009 as far as I can recall) is still so very noticeable. I just doesn't get old after not upgrading for so long, and then being on a laptop for 3 years while abroad. Biggest change outside of the Ryzen and the GPU was probably the SSD, plus the second SSD exclusively for games. Feel the same way with my new phone. I was always in the lower-middle upperclass price segment in the past 8 years, because that's what the non-poo poo contracts came with, but now my Mate 10 lite is still blowing my mind despite being a solid price segment and a half below what I used to have. Progress in processing power or miniaturization or whatever must have been off the charts in the last couple of years.

I was originally going to buy a new processor and motherboard around now, but I think I'm gonna hold off for one more year and then do a full upgrade. Need to save money for wedding stuff anyways and I'm pretty sure prices will come down within a year. I can still run Civ, Overwatch, Total War, PUBG and pretty much every indie title I want to play, so I'm in no rush.
