I'm a big fan of damage over defense. My highest health character ever barely topped 5300hp. Traps do enough damage, get vile bastion.

I bricked an Uber Atziri set yesterday because 5300 hp gets oneshot by spears and A'alai's spike rain sometimes. My fault for switching to Cospri's for the double curse instead of just wearing LC like I know I should.

There will probably be more skills, maybe they're waiting a bit before blowing their load with all the info at once. You're telling me that a new league AND an expansion doesn't have any? No way. I probably get hit by way more poo poo that I'm not supposed to than you do. Also I'm not playing Assassin so my damage is a lot lower. I'm running Pathfinder with like 60/65 dodge and braindead permanent curse/bleed/elemental status immunity. It's still enough damage that Conservatory Vaal and the double Vaals in uber die before they really do anything, but Trio is a slowish fight and Atziri herself gets to do a bunch of crap. E: I'm at work with no headphones anyone wanna summarize new mapping system for me?

You start at the perimeter in one of 4 quadrants, and the maps that get dropped will either be the map you're in or the next map in the path towards the center. The center is a map whose boss will drop a fragment for the 5th boss (think Pale Court). You can apply new currency in the Atlas to either add a modifier to any map within a radius (so Jewels) you run for a limited number of runs (one of the examples in the video was "Unique Boss drops 1 additional Unique item") or to (permanently?) increase the tiering of a map type you run (hello Tier 15 Gorge!). So like, what actually matters to me (because "making maps harder to get more rewards" is loving nebulous and is already in the game in a state I don't particularly like) is whether or not this means maps can actually be sustainable in a solo self found sense at all levels now. Does this guarantee that when you collect a pool of 20 T12 maps and then run them all at 100% quant 24% packsize, along with the 5 or so T13s that drop, you'll have at least the pool you started with? Because that sure as gently caress doesn't happen right now and right now I just have a pile of T7s and lower at the end of that process.

Well the idea is that you're upgrading your lower level map bases to high tiers so that you're not getting stuck with low level content you can breeze through. Doesn't really matter what tier a map is at that point if you can permanently upgrade it.

Expansion looks great, essence league looks great too although I'm a bit concerned about the inventory management side of the essence items. That looks like it is going to be a clusterfuck with all those essence types, with all of them having 7 levels. In the IGN video Chris talked about "specializing" in a map, and that "having the best gorge map on the server" is a goal a player could have, which would then cause other players to want to group with them for their gorge map. He didn't specifically say if the tier-increasing effect on a map was permanent, though. The items they showed off in the video added effects to a map for a limited number of runs and were not permanent, but they didn't actually demo the tier-increasing item. But it looks like tier 15+ gorges might be a thing. From what we know so far, it looks like it will depend on the rarity or permanence of the map tier-increasing item you use on the atlas itself. You could pick your favorite common map regardless of what tier it is, and bump it up to tier13 or whatever, and then just buy copies of that map and they'd all be T13 since you invested into that map on your atlas.

That all sounds loving sweet. I'm excited already. Also glad they're overhauling the map system. I don't think I can really justify $450 on poe despite how sweet that phoenix armour looks. They did actually, Chris used a tier upgrade orb on a map on his atlas and it added a small border to it, he commented that the UI is a work on progress and that indicator will be more prominent. He didn't exactly state whether the tier upgrade is permanent, but he did say that the sextant effects added only last 5 maps. I'm guessing the tier upgrade orbs will be reasonably rare. edit: Seems like one of the design goals is to make party play viable again.
