Speaking of which, are the new synthetics in Stellaris actually any good? (And do they get that huge opinion malus hiveminds get? I mean, I understand why it's there I suppose, as who would LIKE a hivemind...although I didn't like it being so big, since it really made diplomacy/making friends extremely difficult)

Since yeah, I haven't got the latest expansion at this stage, although I'm kinda feeling like playing a space strategy game. And I dunno, I guess despite Stellaris' flaws, I want to be able to enjoy playing it, the whole way through - although it always seems to get a bit tedious later on in the game. (And well, I suppose for me right now it's either wait and hope that Stellaris is improved, or forget about it and just buy some other 4X game :v: )

Is there any reason to buy Synthetic Dawn if I only ever play spiritualists?

I was playing a few weeks ago and the scales fell from my eyes and I suddenly realized that the game will never be what I wanted from a space empire sim from Paradox. But it can still be fun and I'm going to get some more multiplayer in soon

If you want some interesting experiences in the late game check out the LEX mod and some of the other mods that add crisis events

the synth have a range of different advantages and disadvantages depending on which kind you are

the biodome synths are only a small hive mind negative and I've enjoyed using migration treaties to trick the ai into giving more zoo creatures

Yeah, same - that first period where you're still exploring the galaxy is great. I just always seem to lose interest once everyone forms huge blobs though, as nothing much happens.

Also, have they changed it yet so that you can terraform planets that have pops on them? (And will terraforming destroy buildings on the world, like tile blockers?) At least with regards to terraforming planets to a "machine world" that is; since I'm kinda tempted to play as a robo-civ and just try to robo-ify a large portion of the galaxy. (Although I always get turned off terraforming planets, seeing as I never get the tech early enough - so I never feel inclined to wait that long, before putting people on the planet, heh.)

The game makes it way easier to just modify parts of your own population so they have high habitability for specific biomes, or integrate species that already have it, which makes sense I guess

This is a good game. You can also play the boardgame version if you have tabletop simulator.

Alright well, I bought Synthetic Dawn and installed the beta patch. So, as a robo-civ, if I colonize lovely tomb worlds, etc. will any of the organic AI civs be able to actually invade my (atmosphere-less) worlds?

Yeah, they can. But synthetic pops can't live on a world that's under the control of an organic civ, they'll die out eventually and the planet will still be just as uninhabitable to the organics as it was before you colonized it

the latest Stellaris dev diary talks about some big changes coming along in the next patch, specifically with system control and territory. Seems like Wiz wants to make the game more like other Clausewitz games with regard to movement through territory being controllable by forts, at least with the hyperlane FTL tech

The changes that theyve announced so far make a lot of sense to me and because they alter the core mechanics so much it gives me some hope that other things I dont like about the game will get reworked later on down the line as well. Like habitability and planet pops/tile management which have always seemed halfassed to me. And diplomacy which really needs work

You are honestly better off looking for news on their subreddit than in the Paradox forums. They apparently are remaking Italy next patch and instead of it being reverse Korea it's gonna be balkanized into socialist/democratic/papal states/savoy royalists and napolitan royalists

forums ate my post. anyway I like the changes to galactic terrain too, that will be a huge improvement over current 2d model of movement across the map where hyperlanes are the only defining characteristic. without those aspects to think about there is basically no strategy involved in this game that claims to be a strategy game
