The problem is finding a shirt that fits your chest and shoulders without looking like a tent around your waist. I guess you just have to be rich and custom tailor everything.

Get some dress shirts from Goodwill and a used sewing machine, learning to dart shirts isn't too hard

Okay. I'm back. I've done squats, rows, bench, ohp (not in that order) over a few days.
Feels so good to be back.

Although I was a bit out of practice for two sets of squats, put the bar a bit too high for my usual high-bar, so my neck is super tense.
I noticed though, so the discomfort is minimal.
(Also my bench did go down a bit, but my OHP stayed about the same. Too soon to tell for squats.)
Back to destroying my body with weights.

I deloaded so I could get my form back

Now my bench has dropped from 180 to 135, and my squat from 225 to also 135, but at least I'm getting aaaaall the way down to the bottom now, and that sweet sweet DOMS is there to tell me I did something right

It is sobering however to be reminded of how little a difference it even makes though, because the beanpoles and tubbos at work all talk excitedly about their respective gym routines and they don't even look in my direction with anything resembling a "oh hey you work out too don't you?"

There was a guy at the gym the other day who spent legitimately 45 minutes doing shoulder mobility poo poo with a rope thing he attached to one of two power racks, the only one with a mirror, while I risked my life in the lovely squat rack with safety rails that are too low for me.

Thankfully the gym I go to has like 4 power racks to choose from so I really couldn't be that mad at the dude. I'm still so gun shy about putting on higher weight I had to have safety bars there.

Yes, I'm worried about dropping 135 during my 3x5 squat set lol.

I guess it's possible that the bar could roll and hurt other people. And loud noises scare people.

Me: "Aha, I found out why my lower back is hosed up, it's because I wasn't adjusting the squat rack to put the hooks low enough, so when I back into them to re-rack it I have to go up on my tiptoes and hollow out my lower back which puts huge strain on it. I just need to adjust the posts down another notch so I can lift straight into the hooks by standing up"

Roommate: "If you have too much weight on the bar for you to be able to just lift it off your shoulders and onto the hooks with your arms, you're using too much weight :smuggo: :eng101: :smuggo: "

Have you ever done that? I think it would be awkward as gently caress to get your hands out of the way and shrug it off if you're doing low bar and stuck at the bottom of a rep.

Sounds insane when you could just use safeties

You will be the effigy I burn, infused with all the traits that make them the detestable little goblins they are.

Only had to bail out of a Squat once when I was at the bottom and knew I wasn't coming back up.

It's awkward as gently caress whether you let it roll off your back or use the safeties, and it feel like everyone is staring at you.

Somewhat related, there's a guy using the Smith machine to Squat and it sounds like gay porn over there.

You could always end up like that cross fitter guy who broke his back and became quadriplegic due to the bar hitting his vertebrae on the way down

I can’t drop deadlifts either, I gotta put them down, they’d hit my knees and destroy my legs probably

Yeah that's when I've done it. Just move your poo poo out of the way and let it fall. I also work out alone so no one to hit if it rolls away.

How is that even possible? The bar is already on your back. Then it rolls off it onto the ground. How does it hit you in the back after it rolls off your back?

I've dumped the bar backwards, and partly my own body as well. It's loud, scary, and when the moment passes it's embarrassing as hell. Safeties are there if you keep falling backward (or end up falling forward somehow) and keep carrying the bar with you a little too far. I see it as better safe than sorry.

Vargatron posted:

I'm back to squatting low 200s (long way to get back to where I was) and I went to a separate training room my gym built during a renovation. It has four racks when I've been used to using cages with safeties. It freaks me out to just squat in empty air with nothing around me but I'm willing to get used to it because that particular training room has plastic bumper plates, which I've never used prior to Monday and I'm loving them for deadlifting.

he couldn’t come up after a squat or snatch and tried to dump the bar behind him and it hit his lower vertebrae, he was low and it bounced or something (I’m sure you can find video of it, I remember seeing one)

I’ve seen plenty of gym fail videos where people hit their backs in weird ways, it’s always possible to hurt yourself

Ending up in a wheelchair might be an extraordinary circumstance but hey, it happened to that guy I don’t want to be case #2

I don't think planning to dump a bar loaded with steel plates off your back is acceptable in any gym

If you're in a "hardcore" gym it might be OK to do so with bumper plates

When I had to do it it was in the one rack without safeties, because people (on of whom was doing shrugs) were in the ones that had them.
So I was still in a cage, but it was p. loving dangerous for me. I could've easily been broken by >2x my body weight.

It was a snatch and he only got hit because there was a pile of crap behind him iirc. Dumping the bar from a failed squat isn't nearly so dangerous if you keep people and their stuff out of your area like a mad dog.

I think the biggest thing for me is I feel less confident because I'm doing form adjustments and I think of poo poo like "keep back angle correct" or "hips up first". If I just turn off my brain and go into autopilot I feel good about the weight but I know I'm not doing it with correct form yet.
