the milk machine posted:some places hire cops to kick in doors and shoot people with airsoft guns, that's not weird at all yeah when I was a kid post columbine, pre sandy hook, school shooting drills were just "we all practice turning off the lights, locking the doors, and being quiet, like, once every couple years" and they were more funny than traumatizing, but I guess the point is instilling a mentality of ever-present fear so they really had to take it up a notch since then apparently!

Milo and POTUS posted:I wonder if statistically cops a bigger threat than school shooters. Cops. Though these statistics are AFAIK self reported by departments so the numbers are probably low. Between 10-30 kids per year killed. Counting 18-29s to include university and grad students ~250-300 per year. School shootings. In the 2010s, between 10-50 kids per year killed, though this includes universities. Wounded usually about double that. Conclusively children are in more danger in school than in proximity to cops, though not by as much of a margin as anyone sane would like. It's probable that the cops are lying and are in fact more dangerous to kids though.

Guns are to blame for school shootings, sure, but nobody ever really considers what makes schools so loving terrible that students decide that destroying those schools by killing everyone in them is worth throwing away their lives for. Nobody ever brings that up. Why?

Sitting with the lights out isn't so bad but at my old school the vice principal would come around and physically attempt to force open the door of each room to make sure it was locked properly, which was pretty scary for my class of four and five year olds And because the US is a deranged nation have an actual incident we can point to and say "here's why we need Kindergarteners to know how to hide from mass shooters."

We didn't start doing that poo poo until middle school but I've seen that shooter lockdown song set to the tune of twinkle little star for kindergarten classes and more than most things it's the most damning piece of evidence against the place. Domestically, obviously.

I teach Elementary, but I have a direct line to the High School drama through my oldest kid. The science teacher got fired last week for basically never coming to work and then not teaching anything when she was there. In addition to this she's going through a bunch of serious personal poo poo. As a final F you to everyone she failed all the graduating seniors. For some reason they can't even remove this teacher's access to the grading system until later in the week, but not to worry, the admin (who is removing all the bad grades) handed out a worksheet (with the answers on it) for all the kids to take photos of. This worksheet will be the final. What is the worksheet you ask? It's a coloring page of the layers of the Earth (crust, mantle, etc). lol
