Has anyone here had a mechanical keyboard from WASD? I'm looking at picking up one of these with Cherry MX Browns for $155. I'm using it for gaming and general use/typing. http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/mechanical-keyboard/wasd-v2-104-key-custom-mechanical-keyboard.html I did not see WASD in the OP so wanted to see if I was missing something here.

A couple of us just got CODEs which are made by WASD, our posts are mostly on the previous page. They seem to be highly recommended. Mine showed up an hour ago and unfortunately it was the 104-key version instead of the 87-key version. Amazon is sending me a replacement next-day, so that is cool, but I'm a little bummed I only got to type on it for a few minutes. Seemed nice, though.

Yeah, I just saw the CODEs with MX Browns go on sale and that reminded me I've been meaning to pick em up. Was not sure if I wanted the CODE with the backlight or the standard version with the custom keys.

Also that fuckin owns! If it was a little bit more like a laptop layout with arrow keys I would be so into it. As it stands, it looks awesome but lacks that vital functionality of arrow keys without a modifier Would love to know if you could buy MX keycaps that were that shape

Really loving my new g710 keyboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126299 I had a mechinical keyboard before without LEDs and the background lighting is really nice when gaming/fapping in the dark, as we all do. But the nicest extra (which apparently you can also buy separately) is that they come with dampening rings that muffle the mechanical noise.

I got some very cheap rings off eBay and installed them on my arrow keys.. don't know if i like them. certainly quieter but removes that active feel when you bottom out the key probably go well with blues but idk about with my browns

I have owned the g-15, IBM Model M (kept this) and some Steelseries non-lit mechanical to kind of give you my frame of reference. Also tried a lot of others out at my local mediastore which made me feel really special, as I walked back and forth between keyboards whilst getting looks from employees. Besides this I was also considering the Razor Blackwidow Ultimate as cheaper and noisier solution. But I went with the g710 because of the better build quality, mostly the backstands which are really sturdy, even though they are plastic. Also, palmrest.

chippy posted:Recent CODE buyers, do you find that some of the LEDs have a yellowish tint to them? Yea, a handful are slightly greener or yellower than their neighbors, and my F key may as well have a yellow LED. Doesn't bother me enough to complain to WASD, since I usually keep the backlight turned off.

chippy posted:Recent CODE buyers, do you find that some of the LEDs have a yellowish tint to them? Yes. The LEDs are slightly inconsistent in brightness and some seem to have a little tint to them. It's not something that bothers me much, but yeah it's noticeable if you look for it. I was thinking it might be the key caps because I haven't taken them off to compare the bare LEDs with each other.

The only lighting inconsistencies I've noticed is due to the LED/key imprint offset. All of the CODE Keyboard LEDs are located at the top center of the keys, but not all the key imprints offset to that same place - the letters' imprints are located at the top left of the keycap, whereas the function keys' are top center, right above the actual LED. This leads to slightly inconsistent lighting on some of the letter keys (notice that the left side of each letter imprint is a little less well lit than the right side). It hasn't bothered me though.

chippy posted:Recent CODE buyers, do you find that some of the LEDs have a yellowish tint to them? I took all my keycaps off to install orings and one of the LEDs did look yellow from certain angles. It looks like a coating gone wrong possibly. I can't tell it is yellow with the keycaps on, so its fine I guess. Stuff like this happens when buying electronic parts, but considering they charge $150 for what is supposed to be a premium product, I hope they will be addressing their sourcing problems.

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the top of the Cherry MX RGB clear case, while its still mounted to the keyboard, allowing you to swap out springs or actuators.

I seem to recall reading that if it's PCB mounted, then yes. If it's plate mounted, no. (I assume the RGB variants use the same type of shell the majority of MX switches use) http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_MX#Disassembly

Collateral Damage posted:Just wash it with clean water and make sure it's completely dry before you connect it again. I did this to clean vomit off my Rosewill board a few months ago (it was pretty bad). Just take a toothbrush to get between all the keys and in the switches if it fits. Then if you still have some sticky keys you can blast some contact cleaner in the switch and work it really fast. I ended up getting a new keyboard because I couldn't get rid of all the stickyness, but that may have been premature because after I let the old one sit for about a month all the sticky keys seem fine again.

I've had a little time to use this CODE keyboard now. I ended up getting red and blue orings and liked the blue ones better. The red ones didn't have much effect. The board is nice and quiet now, except for the stabilizers on the wider keys, which rattle pretty loudly. Going to dump a bunch of lube on those tonight. Typing is really smooth and comfortable. I would like to try a switch that is a bit softer, but these are quite nice. I got a tenkeyless board because I don't use the numpad, but I discovered I really want there to be an enter key on the right edge of the keyboard so I can slap it with my thumb. Not a big deal, but if I could get an 88-key version (87 + enter) I would love it. I was toying with the idea of designing a keyboard PCB for fun. Cherry switches are easy to source from our normal electronic distributors, but does anyone know who makes stabilizer hardware? e: Looks like Cherry makes that, too. taqueso fucked around with this message at 19:12 on Mar 5, 2015 |

you can always get the infinity keyboard kit from massdrop, which is compatible with the poker cases (like the aluminum one shown on that) and customize the layout to anything you want. I have mine so that the bottom right 4 modifier keys are the arrow keys, since all those keys are just repeats of keys on the left. edit: like this http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/layouts/d3b3597a7e755d94f7a7ff484763e82a Nondescript Van fucked around with this message at 20:44 on Mar 5, 2015 |
