poo poo I'm sorry. Hope it's one that's easy to deal with. Thankfully cancer treatment is something the NHS is still good and fast at.

I had the easy mode colorectal cancer - growth on stoma and lump in lymph node, so feel free to ask me stuff about surgery and chemo. Can't really advise on radio- or immunotherapy, but the cancer megathread has people who've been through anything you can imagine - it's https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3529607 if you haven't found it yet.

After a seriously uncomfortable overnight in a chair (40 people I guess sat bolt upright all night - one guy said it was worse than the 12 years he'd spent in the army) & assorted X-rays, CT scans, the Oncology specialist came to talk to me. So they're extremely sure but got to have biopsies (can't do on weekends) to confirm 100% before appropriate treatment plan can be sorted.
Mysterious symptoms such as extreme bloating, pain in right side which easy to put down to RSI from laptop use etc, all tie together.

I know a few on here are having cancer treatment - if anyone wants to share thoughts on PM about the relative merits of radio/chemo/immuno/surgery would be glad to here hear your experiences so when the time comes to decide I have a better idea. I shan't be doing a Steve Jobs on it !

That's rough, Jaeluni, I'm so sorry. All I know about cancer is what I've seen from watching family members and friends deal with it so all I can contribute about treatment is it can be very individual what people can get on with and what works best. But the flip side of that it is absolutely out there, there are lots of options, and I've seen it work. I hope you find something, and all goes well.

Sorry to hear that and wishing you a speedy recovery.

FWIW colon cancer is usually one of the better ones to get if you must have cancer.

Cancer care is still not hosed on the NHS and you can be assured of a pretty reasonable standard of care. Most things are driven by guidelines so if you're generally fit and well it's more a matter of what treatments you don't want to have.

As for these poor cruisers: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9wzvw892wdo

quote:

Cruise ship passengers isolating amid bug outbreak

A number of people are isolating on a cruise ship following the outbreak of a stomach bug.

The P&O Cruises vessel Ventura left Southampton on 11 May for a two-week cruise around the Canary Islands.

Following reports of passengers with "gastrointestinal symptoms", the company said "enhanced" sanitation protocols had been put in place.

The company would not confirm how many people on the ship were unwell.

It said a further "enhanced and extended sanitisation" took place on Friday while Ventura was docked in Tenerife.

:itwaspoo:

I wonder if it'll turn out to be cryptosporidium too? The crypto outbreak in Brixham isn't just contained to Brixham, nor did it start in Brixham or this past week either. These are three random reports from three different places last month:

https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/...arrhoea-4584316

quote:

Lambing farm near Banbury forced to close after visitors become ill with sickness and diarrhoea
A popular farm near Banbury has cancelled the rest of its lambing season event after visitors and staff became ill with sickness and diarrhoea.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cedxjyk15y5o

quote:

A farm attraction has temporarily closed after four reports of visitors catching cryptosporidium and E. coli.

Baylham House Farm near Ipswich is a popular visitor attraction with families.

It closed on Wednesday and investigators for government agencies are expected to visit next week.

https://news.sky.com/story/sickness-outbreak-caused-by-parasite-forces-farm-to-cancel-animal-cuddling-and-feeding-experiences-13112291

quote:

Sickness outbreak caused by parasite forces farm to cancel animal cuddling and feeding experiences
Gannow Farm in Worcestershire received reports of people suffering sickness and diarrhoea after farm experiences that let them get up close with animals.

etc. etc.

With the current outbreak, there are people falling sick well outside the official Brixham area too, with people in Dartmouth, Paignton and Torquay reporting to be unwell according to the local facebook groups.

0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.

With the cards they can track you, yeah? Everything you spend goes into a computer and stores it against your number and they can keep an eye on if you're eating what they want you to eat and doing what they don't want you to do. And the pounds have the queen's head on them cos they're British but they don't want you thinking about that cos it's not allowed

It's also a good way of burying the lede on controversial policies.

Today's DM has an article about Kemi Badenoch introducing legislation to permit restaurants and cafes to set up tables on pavements, as per the pandemic.

Bad-Enoch is trumpeting this as a Brexit Benefit, because if there's one thing continental Europe famously doesn't have it's pavement dining...

So all the discourse is about gammons crowing about this and people with functioning brains pointing out how stupid it is.

And about four paragraphs deep in the article is a list of other stuff the legislation includes, like loosening regulations on where fruit machines can be placed, bumping up the employee count for what classifies as a Small Business (thus exempting them from loads of employee and safety regulations onerous red tape) and rules to allow businesses to self-certify certain training standards.

Which is much more worrying libertarian poo poo than suddenly Sunlit Albion being Free from the Fetterlock of Brussels to eat Proper British Grub on the Great British Pavement...but that's what people are talking about.

Also when the power/comms goes out.

It's a bit like 15 minute cities in that regards. The idea that "everyone can walk to whatever they need within 15 minutes" is a nice surface thought, but it relies on "everyone can walk" as a prerequisite, so unless you've got deities involved you've just reinvented ablism and barriers to access. And even if your planners get a solution to that, you need to make sure that it's one that doesn't go to poo poo if the power or comms go down. But of course that's completely detached from whatever the Mail pretends not to like about the idea.
