Anyone into instrumental prog metal? Just listened to Pomegranate Tiger's (stupid band name I know) Entities and thought it was fucken rad. I especially loved the tail end of the album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnhX-bjZfCQ Edit One thing I find very interesting is at around 12 mins into the album they put in a piano piece. Call me super gay but I really like it when artists put in poo poo that will juxtapose their metal. Yeah okay man fucked around with this message at 00:35 on Jul 3, 2014 |

that sounds way less cool than the guy from local band Blood of the Moon who has a bucket of blood that he tosses bits from throughout their set so that at the end the floor is covered in coagulating blood.

On the one hand, okay whatever it's blood and it's theatrical and it was cool the first time I saw Watain do it I guess. On the other hand, when a band does it in a restaurant that has a health code, and ends up closing down a brewery for over a week and endangering someone's business... eh, maybe it's not too metal of me to say, but I think that's a little lovely.

I remember reading in a skate mag about some band that got into some trouble because they threw a goat's severed head into the crowd and it killed/maimed someone. Does anyone have any idea what the hell I'm talking about because I really want to know what band that was.

QPZIL posted:And then there's this: God drat it, after that Watain show in Brooklyn every two-bit Satanic black metal band is going to be pouring chicken blood all over the place as though it's not absolutely disgusting. I went to see Lord Mantis and Hell Militia last night and these guys were the local opener: Old boy was wearing an inverted cross made out of what appeared to be chicken bones and had sheep or goat jaws dangling from his pants. After one song he informed us that BALLTIMORRRREEEE! IT IS TIIIIIME! TO DRINK THE BLOOD OF SAAAAATAN! AND BE BAPTIZED! IN! BLAAAAAAAASPHEMY! He had something in his hand and I figured that was my cue to back up. Fortunately for everyone, our blood-spitting radar was working perfectly and the stream of acrid, foul blood that he spewed in our direction just landed on the floor. To be honest, it really wasn't much blood, just a mouthful, but the Sidebar is pretty much a basement without great air circulation and the smell was pretty awful. Anyway, Lord Mantis came on later and was really loving good. If you have a chance to catch that tour absolutely do so. Also, buy Charlie Fell a beer and chat him up, he's a really nice guy.

I recently discovered Mael Mordha and I think you'd like em. They're like Candlemass-esque doom with relatively minor Celtic elements. Solstice also have a bit of a folky vibe going on on New Dark Age.
