Depends how they do it. Like whenever they pedestrianize an area to make walking safer and faster there's complaints about disability access for cars. And some are genuine and some are from pro-car groups concern trolling, so the best way to split those off is electric bollards, which are very good, but they're still reliant on power and comms, so there is a point of failure added.

Doesn't mean you bin the whole thing, otherwise we wouldn't do anything, but it does mean you have to look at failure mitigation.

It depends, a big shopping centre you drive to/get driven to/take a bus to can probably be more convenient in a wheelchair/on crutches than visiting several independent shops within a 15 minute walk radius.

it's round, like always

lots of high street businesses already offer a home visit service for people who can't get to their location for whatever reason, presumably this would be even easier in a 15 minute city scenario

Also the other big failure, relevant again to card machines, is some of them take the easy route of just excluding the estates where the majority of the non-gentrified working class actually exist from the definition of people. That's more a complaint I've seen in US discussion, but yeah if we want all cashless we need universal banking/giro access, and if we want all 15 minutes, we need reliable transit from all those areas. And neither of those are why the Mail dislikes either.

Daily Mail ran two articles today complaining about pubs favouring cashless transactions. I don't get it, why are old people so wedded to using cash for everything.

As a person who is both poor & absolutely dogshit at budgeting & has very little impulse control I much prefer being able to take out £X at the start of a night out from an ATM, and thus it is impossible to spend more money than I'd expected without going to the ATM again. Which I could do, but also it's an extra layer of bullshit to make me reconsider if it's actually a smart idea to spend more money.

The same theory is why I just don't have a debit card. In fact I still use the bank account I had as a small child which doesn't even allow me to get overdrawn even by a penny. It's a terrible account with essentially gently caress all interest, but I'm not well off enough to actually have enough money to generate any noticeable interest. If I want to spend money online then I have to buy a gift card. I don't just have a way to empty my account on garbage without thinking about it until I get my statement at the end of the month. Now, it has its downsides, not all places you'd want to spend money online have gift cards. Used to be able to mitigate this with Tesco selling Visa giftcards which were super useful, but seemingly they got stopped because of *criminals*. So If I got banned from SA I'm probably not buying my way out of the ban for a while but  Better that than me deciding at 3am that what'll fill the hole in my soul is a £110 history book on Feliks Dzerzhinsky. I got overdrawn once, entirely by accident & then suddenly I went from £9 in the red to several times that before I even looked at the balance. So I realised I couldn't really trust myself the hard way. Now if I got to the end of the month & fell short on money, well, it'll suck to go those last few days rationing what food is in the cupboard but better that than racking up bills to the bank which just guarantees you'd be in the same hole at the end of next month & suddenly it's a cycle of poo poo.

There is also a tiny part of my brain which likes the gap between my bank knowing that I took out £100 & my bank knowing how exactly I spent that £100, I feel like if anyone wants that much of my personal data then they can pay me for the privilege. This is entirely irrational & paranoid but hey, it's not like it's my sole motivation at least.

Well guys & dolls, seems I may have the big C in the colo-rectal area.
After the good news about the diabetes, I suddenly felt very unwell in a non-specific way and went over to my GP who saw me without an appointment!
Packed me off to The Grange (dreaded new hospital with horrendous waiting times in Cwmbran serving practically the whole of South Wales). After a seriously uncomfortable overnight in a chair (40 people I guess sat bolt upright all night - one guy said it was worse than the 12 years he'd spent in the army) & assorted X-rays, CT scans, the Oncology specialist came to talk to me. So they're extremely sure but got to have biopsies (can't do on weekends) to confirm 100% before appropriate treatment plan can be sorted.
Mysterious symptoms such as extreme bloating, pain in right side which easy to put down to RSI from laptop use etc, all tie together.

I know a few on here are having cancer treatment - if anyone wants to share thoughts on PM about the relative merits of radio/chemo/immuno/surgery would be glad to here hear your experiences so when the time comes to decide I have a better idea. I shan't be doing a Steve Jobs on it !

So don't put off things til retirement or until life gets easier! Just Do It!

Really sorry to hear this and hope you're doing OK, Jaeluni, thoughts and best wishes and hope the biopsy goes as well as it can x

I saw one comment suggesting Alan Hansen based on absolutely nothing but yes.

Although in fairness there were more than a few voices saying "this speculation is pointless & unhelpful"
