"It Doesn't Matter" would always sound so good in my brothers car, something about that bass note / speaker combo shook the whole block.

Apparently I was three days late, the album actually came out on April 7th. Whatever, still bangs.

As a kid this album was one of my go-to's for drumming practice, so It Doesn't Matter was probably my least played tune. Never really been much for the four-on-the-floor house rhythms (until later in life as a DJ, anyway), and the opening beat sounded almost exactly like one of the demo drum patterns on a little Casio keyboard I had. But yeah, when the Brothers do a big house/techno beat, they always come correct with the hypnotic sub bass. Under The Influence from Surrender is my go-to 'let's see how well these subwoofers work' tune.

It was the other tunes like Get Up On It Like This and Block Rockin' Beats that were on heavy repeat, as a kid with big dreams behind a drum kit. I didn't know it at the time but I was playing along to all the classic break samples, setting a good foundation as a groove drummer. :)

I have a huge amount of respect for The Chemical Brothers' stuff. While the whole album rules, Block Rockin' Beats is a hell of an opener, and Lost in the K-Hole became somewhat of an anthem for me a couple years ago when I started receiving ketamine treatment for treatment-resistant depression lol

Am I misremembering or wasn't it Flume who ate a girl's rear end on some festival livestream a few years ago? lmao I remember seeing that and thinking it was wild. I don't remember what festival that was, but I definitely don't think something like that would happen at Coachella.

e: Yep, it was at Burning Man 2019

I mean, that seems pretty on brand and also tame for Burning Man

About to head out to see Eric Prydz (at Echostage) for the 5th time. Spencer Brown is the opener (plus a local guy), I'm not familiar with Spencer but I watched part of his ABGT 350 set and it was good vibes.

Watching Disclosure's set now and do they have a sign language interpreter off to the side of the stage? That's awesome for the hearing impaired but how do you interpret house music?

If you're not feeling it through the floor, is it really house?

Anyway, who's ready for the fusion of EDM, rock and traditional Scots Gaelic folk songs? Nobody? Well, good job nobody told Niteworks!

I assume we're getting a lot more posting about Coachella than Ultra/EDC/Tomorrowland because we can seek back in the daily streams to see specific performances?

Yeah I was just about to say, I've heard Duke Dumont's name before but I don't think I've actually heard him play until this. This is nice!

What should I expect from the SHM set? I didn't get a chance to listen to their new album. It's a SHM x The Weeknd set, and I've heard Moth to a Flame, but they're not gonna bring him out for just that one song right? I mean Flume brought out loving everyone last night and it wasn't called Flume x *insert guest name*

They would be insane not to play some of their old crowd pleasers like Don't You Worry Child, but you might be able to get an idea from their album release party from Saturday: https://www.1001tracklists.com/trac...2022-04-16.html

This is pretty cool so far but I’m always a little ho hum whenever I see people with massive reputations get a giant headliner set and they just play music that sounds like the popular music of the day. Then again it’s hard to really demand that SHM continue to be a visionary ensemble, they kind of already did that 20 years ago.

I loved SHM and will run that set back again but holy poo poo do I not like The WKND. He really sounds like if you asked someone’s racist boomer mom to come up with examples of rap lyrics, he played the one song of his I liked but even then the whole time I was like “this is music written at a 2nd grade level, wtf is going on?”

I was the exact opposite. I thought that SHM set was boring until The Weeknd came out and totally saved it with his string of hits lol

Because of other artists bringing out crazy guests, I had this faint hope that he would've brought out Daft Punk for Starboy and I Feel It Coming, but that would've been a lot to ask for so I wasn't super bummed when it didn't happen.
