How do you know the mystery stew pictured from 1000 meters away isn't bad Anyway, I hate plain boiled potatoes

steinrokkan posted:How do you know the mystery stew pictured from 1000 meters away isn't bad I mean, you mix the potatoes with the stew, then they're no longer plain. It looks like a perfectly fine meal, I'd eat it. I wouldn't brag about it online, but I would eat it.

Stew is good, but not very photogenic, which makes it appropriate for a thread about bad looking food The british just never discovered how to plate anything 😔

That brown goop with the very pale potatoes is essentially a lazy cottage pie, it's fine. The marge-coated bread on the side is another story. Captain Hygiene posted:
OMG, I inherited an almost complete collection of Robert Carrier... leaflets? Magazines? Anyway, there were dozens of the drat things. I do remember that what I cooked from the recipes was actually pretty good, but the food photography was just dire. If that salmon is very gently poached and the watercress mousseline is very delicately prepared, it's probably really nice. fake edit: Robert Carrier posted:Combine water, sliced onion, celery, bay leaf and lemon juice, and salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste, in a wide saucepan. Bring to a boil; then reduce heat and simmer gently for 15 minutes. Add salmon steaks to the simmering liquid, carefully placing them on the bottom of the pan without letting them overlap. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, or until fish flakes easily with a fork. Chill the steaks in their own liquid. Just before serving, drain. Serve with Watercress mousseline. Serves 4. Oh no. I don't actually know if there is a good way to plate stew, if it's good it's gonna look like a weird brown goo with unidentifiable things floating in it, and suet dumplings. Honestly my main complaint is why the gently caress would you have stew and boiled potatoes. You can just... put the potatoes in the stew? Why the gently caress would you boil them separately just to put them in a heap on the side? If you were making mash then fine but what the gently caress kind of absolute reprobate goes and boils potatoes and then eats them next to stew?

OwlFancier posted:Honestly my main complaint is why the gently caress would you have stew and boiled potatoes. You get some contrast with the steamed potatoes, whereas if they're cooked in the stew then it's all part of the same thing. Don't be lazy. Cook the potatoes separately.

But I like my potatoes as part of the same thing e: Actually I probably would like some contrast sometimes, but I think I'd do something like toss em in a frying pan to get some crispiness rather than doing plain boiled ones. Captain Hygiene has a new favorite as of 18:33 on Aug 10, 2022 |

We only have it on faith that it's supposed to be food, as opposed to Although this is kind of the inverse because it looks like something I'd want to eat if was actually food. And then there's this that actually looks pretty appetizing.
