You've got to know, to understand,
Baby, take me by my hand,
I'll lead you to the promised land.
May declaring that she needed to maintain her around the clock Brexit battle trance rather than engage in political debate is probably my favourite part of this whole campaign.

So maybe it's too early to ask this, but is there any general consensus on why Labour flipped the table and gained like 30 seats? From my understanding the general consensus was that May was probably going to wring a majority out of the elections, and I figured back to back deadly terrorist attacks would be a Tory wet dream given the universal conservative love of fearmongering voters. But somehow she apparently hosed it all up in glorious fashion.

Turns out having a manifesto focused on helping people backed up by a leader who believes in it is better than having a manifesto about screwing over everyone but the rich.

There's also a credible theory out there that May was having a bit of a grace period in the polls and once she actually started pounding pavement people saw through her. After all when she won the leadership contest, I at least was a little bit surprised since she came out of left field, and she clearly wasn't a very good campaigner. Her winning the leadership had nothing to do with how good a politician she is in the public eye.

It's mostly because the post-Attlee Labour really struggled, and the actual labor disputes of the 70s didn't help.

Also many see Blair as a straight-up war criminal regardless of anything else, so.

christ, will the Tories even hit 310, I wonder. Are we looking at a flat out hung Parliament? More elections next fuckin' week?

BBC was saying the Tories have to win all but one outstanding seat. One seat just called for Labour so they literally have to win them all and that's not happening.

Ask me about holding 4gate!
Most of the undeclared seats are safe Tory ones, so it looks like the exit poll will be almost completely bang on.

It will most likely be a Tory minority government, with DUP propping up, that will crash and burn within a year.

Right? The shitstorm that is only growing on the horizon thanks to this election is going to hang completely around the Tory's necks. And the inevitable next election is going to be likewise, and make us look like a bunch of assholes to Brussels.

Labour has some other very popular proposals that got traction too.

Aside from that, May was intensely unlikable and remote (e.g. sending Amber Rudd, whose dad died two days earlier, to do the TV debate while May stayed in a dark room meditating on Brexit) whilst Corbyn was extremely good on the stump and evidently convinced a lot of people that he was sincere.

Thanks :)

If DUP is in hard Brexit is out because hard Brexit would be manna from heaven for Irish nationalists.

Of course there's a bunch of swivel-eyed loons in the Tories who want hard Brexit and only hard Brexit, so... crash and burn it is.

That doesn't excuse it, but he was still presumably better for the UK than the Conservatives would have been, though I suppose having Conservatives lose a war and discredit themselves for a generation would have ended up being good for Labour eventually.

OK, leaving the iraq war aside: is it fair to say that the UK today is a financial services depot and not much else, a land of zero hour contracts and privatized everything and New Labour was just as complicit as the tories?
