I remember getting my AP English Summer reading list for senior year and seeing Brothers Karamazov and Anna Karenina and thinking "well I'm never gonna read this", I rented the movie and got a 20/100 on the test.

The Kitchen God's Wife was unexpectedly good for my 17 year old self.

Let's remember that Stein presides over an organization of literal tinfoil hat-wearers, their "party" get-togethers are truly embarrassments. She campaigned on "both sides are the same" when that could not be more obvious horseshit, and had an execrable platform even by third-party standards. We know Putin has his tentacles into fringe figures on the left (Oliver Stone has become his puppet) because they are desperate for their own source of wingnut welfare. We know she's been doing PR for the Kremlin's stance on the Ukraine, for example.

In a world where the fringe left doesn't have its own TV network in order to perpetuate and strengthen itself, the most shameless of them can be bought.

i like that this person thinks it takes russian dark money to make the green party embarassing

the only good parts of anna karenina are the chapters where tolstoy yells at everyone for not growing their own food on their own land.

the guy wrote kruetzer sonata, which is like if elliot roger had decided to only write a book about a misogynistic killing spree instead of going all in. i'm sure his wife (who was his editor) loved all of those autobiographical scenes from their marriage in a book about a man that kills his wife because of the evil seductions of classical music and french piano teachers.

Asimov's non-fiction science nerdery was so much better because he didn't have to pretend to have characters that had personalities or motivations other than "talk about science nerdery".

Even though most people didn't have access to it live, I think that it was p tasteful of W to do the one big 9/11 in the major markets on the east coast. Savvy even, as he understood the power of the emerging information technologies.

Dick Cheney was probably like "i am not sure if this will be enough 9/11" and W was like "look fucker, this is going to be such a 9/11 that p much every day after this is going to be 9/11 for decades after this"

And he was right

I swear at some point in the early 2000s Hilary claimed her favorite book was 1984 and the usual suspects went apeshit about it, claiming it meant she wanted to be Big Brother.
