I saw that! My friend sent it to me along with one other which I watched first, and then I watched that one. And then I lent it to my friend at work and neither of us work there any more. I thought she might like it. She never said anything about it, though, and I never asked. I don't think she liked it at all.

Save The Green Planet - half sci-fi, a bit of torture, some comedy, themed a bit similar to "The Invaders". Attack The Gas Station - I have no idea how to describe this movie, but it's great. The Quiet Family - it's basically Fawlty Towers but with guests inconveniently dying instead of being offended. Black Serenade - a generic slasher movie from Spain. imdb and rotten tomatoes didn't like it much but I enjoyed it throughout, especially the ending which is not really generic at all. The Promise, which imdb also doesn't think much of, reminds me of the Princess Bride.

Picnic at Hanging Rock messed me up for a bit after I saw it. The part where the young man is climbing the Rock on the path the girls took and gets all hosed up and weird is one of the most unsettling scenes ive seen in a film. I think it's the amazing soundtrack that sells it also some years back I saw a Spanish (from Spain) movie on Netflix about a dude who travels between dimensions, which was excellent and creepy, can't seem to find the name of it though

"låt den rätte komma in" or "let the right one in" Swedish vampire movie. America made a lesser remake of it but it lacked the mood of the original. I don't even like Swedish movies but I loved this one

Persepolis and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night are two very good Iranian films not actually made in Iran (because, you know, its Iran).

The Spirit of the Beehive is one of those movies that puts you in a weird meditative state then constantly jars you out of it in the most compelling way. The director , Victor Erice, builds obsessively brilliant movies, but has only made a handful in his very long career. In fact, he made a movie about that very fact that is amazing in its own right. It's called Dream of Light and it's about a dude obsessively painting a quince tree.

I remember watching Amilé or whatever as a teenager and loving loving it. As a grown, jaded man in his 30s now, just going off my memories of it I would probably launch my TV out the window in disgust over how loving twee it is.

Anything by Sergei Bondarchuk. Waterloo is goddamn amazing from a production standpoint and was made at a time when if you wanted a big battle scene, you just get as many extras as you can find. So naturally they grabbed 14000 soviet reserve soldiers and turned them into napoleonic infantry. And I hear that film Hero by Zhang Yimou is good too. Stars a little known actor called Jet Li.

Lukas Moodysson is a Swedish director who makes some really heartwarming films about how difficult it is to be a person. And some really ultra-depressing ones as well but I don't watch those ones. English translations of the titles are "Together" and "Show Me Love" (Show Me Love's Swedish title is "loving Amal", Amal being a town in Sweden). edit: Oh and "We Are the Best" which is a more recent one about some Swedish girl teenagers who form a punk-rock band.
