Hi. I'm not gonna read all this. Enterprise/educational versions of win10 still have sane update settings a lot like win7's. Education edition doesn't have the ads either. If you live somewhere tech stuff happens you should be able to leech a copy from a school or workplace. It's literally no different besides not having the invasive bullshit organizations won't tolerate. Impersonate a corporation to gain access to better tech. It's 20-fuckin-18. I want to die

I can't download 8gb of updates because I don't have 8gb free on my computer. I save all my programs, games, files, etc. on separate drives so why is my main drive filled up? Well, because of updates. Now I can't update because updates.

Stop installing OSs on old platter drives and get an SSD. Most updates take like 30 seconds at most to complete and you can go from the post screen to desktop in like 10-15 seconds after the force restart.

If I worked at Microsoft I’d be terrified of applying patches Like 30 years of legacy software probably hidden somewhere in there that you might break for the slightest error Or the Google Accounts security guy, how does he even sleep at night

I'm with you, OP. I'm tired of waking up to find all my unsaved work was lost. At some point, I guess Windows decided the only people using their computers only use it for browsing the web and other mundane tasks. I think I'm going to invest in another computer so I can just use my Windows box exclusively for games or whatever. I'm tired of losing my work. And trying to find a way to stop it from updating itself is proving futile. I wish programs with unsaved work could interrupt the process like it used to be able to. Or at the very least, it shouldn't turn itself on to install updates, at least wait until I am at the computer. (I know someone's gonna respond about something something save more, but it's more complicated than that and I'd like to be able to trust my computer. Also RIP all my private browsing tabs.) Also that waking itself up from sleep and then dying in my backpack thing is also super annoying. I never use the sleep option anymore.

You should probably install updates. Unless you have an AMD product, in which case it probably already has a keylogger hardcoded into the CPU that doesn't get cleared when powering off. lmbo at amd users.

what is the best version of lunix to duel boot? i am reinstalling my OS anyway, may as well add in a lunix and see if i like it. i tried it back in like 2004 for a year and i felt really cool, but it was more frustrating than anything. i assume its has got better? but what is the best linux? i used Ubuntuuu last time because it seemed easy, is that one still good?
