There's a ton of problematic poo poo in other media from around the world for sure, but with anime, it's almost unavoidable. If hundreds of American cartoons came out that portrayed high school teachers dating their 13 year old students in a positive and romantic light, there would rightfully be uproar. But that's one of the most common plotlines in anime, and this poo poo is targeted at young people, telling them that this is to be encouraged. But no one seems to care or call it out. Japanese producers should not get a pass for rampantly producing pedophilia just because it's "part of their culture" and technically legal in Japan. It should not get a pass because "western" media does it too. Weebs enable this stuff to keep getting made by willfully ignoring the problematic poo poo and continuing to pay for it.

i used to lean heavily into the anime hate meme for a long time. i didnt really hate it or think it was for pedos or w/e, it was just funny to meme. my oldest daughter started expressing some interest in anime on netflix a couple years ago so i thought "gently caress it, why not", and just let her explore her interests. one night for movie night she really wanted to watch a studio ghibli movie (think totoro was the first we watched) and i was like goddamn that was actually so good. maybe i was wrong about anime. we watched a bunch more of studio ghiblis works and i really enjoyed them. i was telling my friends about this and while i got razzed a bunch by the anime haters, one of my friends suggested i use his funimation account if my daughter was interested in exploring more. i put the app on the roku and let her know if she wanted to check out more anime it was nothing but anime on that app. i made sure parental controls were on and set to the lowest age bracket (she's 7) i usually sit and work on hobby stuff nearby when the kids are watching tv. the first show she picked seemed okay until there was some scene where a male teacher walks into a girls locker room for whatever reason. complete with the classic shocked face when he discovers a girl alone in there, the sweat droplet, the black nervous bar below his eyes or w/e. it's clearly getting into weird sexual tension vibes. i was like okay this one is maybe not appropriate, pick another show. she decides she just wants to watch Netflix the second time she picked a show it definitely seemed for kids. like almost toddler level dialogue and sound effects, really simple cutesy art style. but there was literally the 1000 year old demon in a prepubescent girls body trope and she ends up trying to seduce another adult male character. i was like okay wtf. pick another one, this one is no good. she decides to stay on funimation this time and picks another show and inside 5 minutes theres a gratuitous panty shot of a school girl lmao. keep in mind these are all rated "g" and shes just picking random poo poo based on the very childlike presentation of the title cards on the app. i dunno if we just got unlucky or what but after that she told me "anime is weird daddy, i just want to watch normal tv" lol. i deleted funimation. after that i had to google around for kids anime stuff to see if what we watched was anamolous and so much of the suggestions had a whole bunch of just weirdly sexual stuff in it when i did a quick overview so i'm basically back to some anime is good, maybe even high art, but most is deviant pedo poo poo. adult men that tell me they watch a lot of anime are again instantly suspicious to me that's my anime story

I don't really watch anime. It's fine I guess? Most of the stories are kind of bad, and most of the characters aren't super likeable, so I never really got into it. I also don't watch a bunch of shows or movies in general honestly, so if I'm watching something it probably won't be anime. My ex was into anime a fair bit tho. She kept trying to show me shows and I really did try to enjoy them. I remember watching Attack on Titan with her and then calling it and not wanting to watch it any more. The stupidest thing is there was an anime I found loving hilarious. Interspecies Reviewers. It's literally just monster loving porn. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. We were watching it one day and she asked to pause the show. It was turning her on. And that's when the lightbulb clicked. I found out it apparently is a genuine horny show for a lot of people, but you know how in the random waffle thread someone posts the Flintstones guy getting hosed by a dinosaur and it's just so comical and ridiculous that you kind of forget people get off to this at all? That was the realisation. It never occurred to me the pictures and audio on screen were being translated into genuine horny thoughts for others, cause it felt more absurd than anything to me. Well, that's my story about finding out how hot anime makes people and being completely oblivious, thanks.

It is mystifying that Interspecies Reviewers ever got onto Funimation lol. It is hentai. It was made by a hentai studio. It is literal pornography. Somehow somebody was able to pitch this to Funimation and basically got them to just broadcast censored porn. After three episodes it was pulled. How it ever got green lit is a mystery. I like to imagine Vince the Slap-Chop guy accepted the task and just burst into a producer meeting unannounced and bamboozled them with his fast talking. It was completely by a twist of fate that you happened to see it during the very limited time it was available on a mainstream source.

It was cool when it was all about people in giant robots killing the hell out of stuff with BURNING JUSTICE. Basically by 2000 that was more or less gone and it all kept getting creepier and skeevier and who knows what else? Even the robot stuff has to jam as much of it in there as they possibly can. I just do not understand it. Its gross and unethical and all that. Ya want porn or horny with consenting non related adults who are more or less human? Eh cool whatever. At least in a cartoon or comic or whatever its not someone IRL porking who is someone's loved one swapping fluids on camera for money. But anime clearly disagrees with that. Hell sometimes I swear the less direct nudity and porn they can actually show the more completely messed up and gross it gets. Votoms you saw main lady interest (who was an adult or looked it. Some super soldier project thing...) nude first episode then the next 52 eps were basically Mad Max and Platoon in space with mech suits. Nowadays she wouldn't have been seen in some capsule naked but would look like 12 and be in fetish type clothes with constant rear end and cleavage shots for the entire series. (And they would probably remove all the Space Nam too.) I just want people in robots yelling at each other and babbling dumb philosophy. Not stuff apparently made for future or potential sex offenders. More Patlabor less that mech show that had the female co pilots bent over practically being straddled by their male co pilots. Yeah. They can't even leave my goddamn smashy robots alone without making it skeevy crap. Also id like a large iced coffee with 1 cream and butter pecan flavor please. And a model kit of the Tequila Gundam that has the coffin on a chain that shoots all the missiles.

It has reasonable views like "having sex with a skeleton is actually not fun" which is somehow a step above how I imagine most anime porn is. Episodes where the characters question why they even thought it would be hot or a good idea is pretty dang funny.

There are a bunch of YouTubers that review forgotten animes and it seems there is a long history of otherwise harmless animes having an episode that would be better skipped or if someone could trim the eight minutes of universally objectionable poo poo in a 26 episode run.
