The problem isn't having to repetitively grind, it's having to repetitively grind a fight that doesn't involve actually playing the game for the most part.

I understand that Bahamut is a big deal for Granblue folks, but they have Bahamut Versa, who is also a Bahamut and is an infinitely better and more engaging fight mechanically, right there. They could have put Proto at the beginning of Proud and the Versa refight at the end.

Nah, I getcha. Granblue at least lets you refresh the page to skip the long cutscene attacks, as evidenced by every guide for every goddamn fight in the entire game on youtube.

I feel like I've making a lot of excuses for this game to myself, but I'm at the Bahamut Versa fight before Proud difficulty and it's honestly killing my interest in playing anymore. This game has a huge amount of potential but so many of the design decisions they made are baffling to me. I'd like to see what they could do with a Relink 2 and a more focused scope.

The Versa fight is my second favorite one in the entire game(after Maglielle/Gallanza double fight). The Proud intro one is tuned pretty hard because it's meant as a filter to see if you're geared enough for Proud.

The versa fight can be a dumb roadblock but its definitely worth powering through to see proud if youve enjoyed rest of the game

The Versa fight pissed me off at first but it's exactly the kind of filter more games need imo

It's a pretty good indicator of what Proud mode is selling. If it's too annoying to beat, you're probably not going to enjoy a lot of Proud fights in general.

Yeah I was mostly just in a bad mood after I lost to the one shot mechanic. I don’t have PS+ at the moment and have liked playing by myself up until now, but wasn’t thrilled at having to grind up the rest of my team. I’m a monster hunter fanboy and the more MMO-y aspects of this game and fight design have put me off at times.

Honestly just putting 1-2 Linked Together sigils on each of my team members made that fight way easier for me to get through

saw a gameplay stream of the assault rifle guy and it looked pretty neat so I picked this up the other day, and yeah, on a first impression it feels great to control and I'm really enjoying it. I have no idea who any of these chucklefucks are and even their summary episodes seem to gloss over some pretty huge parts of their backstory, which I assume is all events from other games (I've never heard of this series before now) so I've just accepted that I'm not going to understand much. but I was a bit confused looking through the intimidating list of unlockable characters and seeing the great majority of them are melee. I was expecting a few more characters to be similar to rackam, but the character distribution reads like ranged is actually more of a specialist playstyle. Are all the characters viable so I can stick with what I like? also, are there any gotchas to watch out for during progression like "don't spend X material because there's a better use for it later" or "don't waste time on these kinds of missions because there's a better time to do them later"?

Personally I just played through the main story once, ignored everything related to crafting and had my fill after it was done. There's some postgame story too but didn't care enough about the grind to play further.

The main campaign was very good tho. Cool bosses and set pieces.

you can use whoever you like, there's definitely some characters that are weaker/stronger than others like any game but not to the extent youre screwed. also no theres not really any gotchas like that.

Every character is playable at the end game, don't worry about that. When progressing, until you hit a post-game quest that unlocks Proud mode, don't worry about upgrading any of your sigils. That'll be a huge waste until you hit the level V sigils, so just replace them as you play until then. Beyond that, play whatever characters you like. The only genuinely annoying thing is that the most powerful end-game weapons for most of the characters are an RNG drop, and the pool of weapons is based on what characters you have unlocked, so it is unfortunately a detriment to unlock a bunch of characters in that sense. But you also don't need those weapons to participate in the late game fights, so it's more an annoyance than anything. Feel free to upgrade your weapons as much as you like, the resource investment is irrelevant while you're playing through the story, and for the characters you like you'll need to fully upgrade all of their weapons anyways.

AIUI, unlocking fewer characters doesn't actually increase the drop rate for those characters' weapons; the unavailable weapons' slots in the drop table just get replaced with Silver Centrums. On the other hand, you will need a lot of Silver Centrums in the endgame, so it's technically still better to not unlock characters that you definitely never intend to use.

I've played a lot of games that try to have a spectacle fight like the one at the end of chapter 6 and they almost always suck. the one in this game was actually super rad. I didn't have any expectations for the campaign part of this game so I've been surprised how great the setpieces and VA are.

The campaign is my favorite part of the game. It felt like playing one of the good PlatinumGames titles. I didnt care for the postgame grind.

I'm finally getting around to playing this, and it's pretty cool. The little text stories you unlock are actually really good at giving background for the various characters (as someone completely unfamiliar with the plot of the mobile game) and they don't overstay their welcome (though they kind of make me wish this game was a retelling of the original story, even though it's really obvious why they didn't do this, since it'd kinda suck for the majority of players who are already familiar with it). The party members are also pretty likable.

The general presentation of the areas and characters are also very nice and I think might actually surpass Tales of Arise as "best looking anime-style game." My only issue is that the game has some weird performance issues - for some reason it makes my high-end PC's fans go crazy and GPU usage max out. I can't get consistent 4k/120fps with high settings, which I would normally assume shouldn't be difficult for a game that looks like this.

Edit: I'm pretty hooked on this game now and wish I had played it weeks ago when more people were still playing in this thread. I love trying out all the different characters. The only one I've tried that I haven't enjoyed at all was Eugen (both the grenades and sniper mode are awkward on controller). I'm also not a fan of Gran's mechanic with the Art levels - it's a pain having to pay attention to them. So I let the CPU control him since he's still a great support.

Rackam is probably the most ridiculously strong DPS I've tried. The first new character I unlocked was Vane, who was good but I wasn't a fan of his playstyle. Next was Zeta who is extremely fun and who I'm playing as currently (though I can't quite pin diwn the timing on her follow-up jump - I pull it off more often than not, but sometimes it fails and I'm not sure why). And then Cagliostro who seems really cool but I haven't actually played her much yet outside of the tutorial. She'll be the next character I use manually.

any characters that the AI is particularly good with that are good to invest in for the AI to control? or any duds it doesn't play well that should be avoided if you aren't playing them yourself?

I unlocked ferry and cagliostro but cagliostro is a lot more obnoxious than I was expecting and ferry feels kinda hard to play well. not sure if I want to just learn how to get good with her or try someone else. rackam still feels the most intuitive and fun to play from what I've tried.

I think I'm about to finish the main game. Going after the final boss.

It seems like the "evil version" of each Primal thing might be some sort of post-game excuse to fight them again.

Also, in case anyone is dumb like me, I only semi-recently noticed that you can auto-aim your throws with L2. Might want to try Eugen again with that in mind, though I feel like his sniper mode will still be a pain to use.

I'm having fun with Zeta. Only non-ranged character I've taken to so far.

Lancelot and Charlotta seem cool in theory, but in practice I often have trouble seeing enemy attacks through their blade spam, and getting interrupted feels bad. I can never seem to pull off Lancelot's blade dodge thing.

I think this is the issue I'm having with some of the characters, there's so much visual noise everywhere that it's a lot harder to tell when to dodge if you're right next to the enemy the team is covering with explosions than when you have some distance from the particles to see the warning circles.

Yeah, this is my issue with the close-range characters (part of why I like Zeta is that her attack loop literally sends her flying into the air where I can get a better look at what's happening).

It's sometimes less of an issue when fighting a single boss, but against smaller enemies it can be really hard to tell when one is using an attack.

I feel like it'll kind of be a shame if this game doesn't continue as some sort of franchise, since the core "building blocks" of its visuals and gameplay are really great.

It's honestly kind of surprising to me (though welcome) that there wasn't any sort of gacha or lootbox stuff involved with character/weapon acquisition, especially given it's literally based off of a gacha game.

Haunting you until no 8 arrives.
The new missions they added in this recent patch are... not great. The Paegant one is mostly alright. It's a massive endurance match of mostly single bosses at a time. Although like with all of these missions they did some screwy things with the numbers. I have no idea how you get out of one-shot range against this stuff without severely harming your damage output. Even with about 50k HP and a 10% damage cut via the crab sigil, it wasn't enough.

The other endurance match mission is where things get gross. It's "Oops all double boss fights". An absolutely absurd number of them in a row. The game does NOT handle the double boss fights well and this hold true here as well, particularly since the numbers have been tweaked such that any attack one-shots. And buddy? There are a lot of attacks. Being melee is basically a death sentence if you don't have a way to be basically invulnerable 90% of the time.

The new Versa fight? Adds an Id that can't be permanently killed (gets revived after a bit) and has a ton of HP besides. Also, numbers are tweaked to be higher and basically all be one-shots, as per standard.

Interesting, the Lucilius fight didn't really have the damage numbers boosted from the normal (they were already super high, but not all of them one-shot) but he starts out in his second phase mode right off the bat (this means his initial paradise lost is the second phase form you only see if you screw up in normal mode and I have no clue how you dodge through it outside of internalizing timing and using actual dodges rather than trying to evade the lasers, since there's so many of them and their exact width is super unclear. Plus now they're coming from every part of the platform, so have fun with offscreen lasers you didn't even see the indicator for), it has an extremely tight timer and thus minimum DPS needed to clear, and he attacks like... twice as fast. Since many of his attacks have lingering effects like the orbs this becomes a complete clusterfuck that is impossible to track really fast. The fight was already really horrid with visual noise.

Seems like a lot of doubling down on the least functional bits of the game, frankly. It was really disappointing.

Sorry to say, but the endgame progression is basically Gachas And Lootboxes: The Game. Your primary way of getting endgame quality seals is by spending currency at the merchant to do random draws, and one of the more important progression mechanics is looting and opening mystery boxes which have an extremely tiny chance of having a rare thing you actually want.

The final weapon for every character is also a vanishingly tiny drop chance off the final boss of Proud mode(well, the final boss before the DLC added a couple more, that is).
