The Twin Cities have gone out of their way to minimize your exposure to the cold. When I visited there, I barely spent anytime outside at all because of the infrastructure they built. It feels a little space-station-y but it keeps away the cold. Unlike Chicago which is just brutal. Granted, that's a temporary condition. Do we have projections on the water levels for the Great Lakes?

Most leaned very hard left. Last I remember Duluth is hard blue. The state voted Sanders for fucks sake. I've never lived in Western Minnesota, but considering East/South/North are all pretty blue I'd say that's a winner of a situation. I live in Seattle now and it's basically the only blue part of all of Washington. And unlike Minnesota where I talk to family that got tricked into voting Trump and they regret it and can't wait to help get him out in 2020, all the Eastern Washington types I talk to are still all about that Trump life. My cousin lives in Spokane now and it's loving redzone hillbilly hell. Let's not even talk about Yakima.

I'm more speaking from my time living in the FM area and what I've heard about rural MN, particularly though the middle of the state.

The Bachmann district was a concession jesse ventura got from the legislature during the distrcting process when he was governor. He wanted a district that his weird third party libertarian chemtrail party could compete in. Bachmann congealed from that district.

It's weird, because last I checked Moorhead is also very liberal ( and was something like .5% to Trump, which a lot of the State was when you consider a lot of his messaging vis a vis the Midwest ) and huge chunks of the western side of Minnesota are staunch DFL guys. Like I'm looking at the maps for 2014/2016 and DFL won huge gains alongside the western half of Minnesota across the board. The state is one of the bluest in the nation when it comes to the day to day it seems. Yet when it comes to country politics you do have the weird thing where a lot of western Minnesota does skew towards Republican Presidents. St Cloud and Anoka are just weird loving places. They vote blue for their cities/needs, but vote red when it comes time for county poo poo. Also last I checked Anoka county was starting to have a lot of problems with meth, and I got the feeling that whole region was starting to become the "problems with meth" region. Also for those that don't know, Minnesota is technically not part of the Democratic Party. They are the "DFL" Democratic - Farmer - Labor party that was formed by a merger of the local Democrat party and the local Socialist party. It's why basically all the Minnesotans you meet are also the most down with Socialism. It's part of our basic party structure in Minnesota! We are also something like 90% Scandinavian, mixed with a ton of various people from wartorn parts of the world we've taken in as refugees. Also we have the highest rate of voting in the US. 77-80% of Minnesotans vote in every election. MINNESOTA IS GREAT. I'ma stop pimping my beautiful home state.

I am born and raised in Duluth, and moved to IL and I cannot believe how spoiled I was with my upbringing. I grew up believing every school recycled and/or composted, and that it was common knowledge that schools still served lunch during the summer. It was a culture shock to get to Springfield and see trash everywhere...yards..streets..you name it. IL education was jarring. It absolutely puzzles me that MN can get so many things right, and other states cannot do the same thing. Then again, to accept MN beyond making weather jokes would be akin to admitting that Canada may be right after all.
