It's not technically soundcloud (although that's where the demos lived) but my synthpop band released its first EP a couple months back.

That a really fun tune. I love concepts like that! Its quite catchy in an un-memorable way (I mean that in the best way possible) and I dig the crescendo/uncrescendo ending

Used to post a lot of music on these forums as "The Long Mouth Castle", but its been probably a decade since I put anything up. Im back?

Anyways, Ive been working on new stuff(under a new moniker) and pulled the trigger on a new track Ive been sitting on, going back and forth on the master for awhile but I think its good enough(first time doing it). First time properly laying down vocals too.

Its electronic, but more of a post rock structure and not really dancey in any way. Hope you dig.

Something I realized after uploading a few tracks on soundcloud is that it's important to adjust the level of your recording because here it's really too low. Depending on what you are using for recording there are some options to increase the input gain. You can also boost the volume with a simple free program like audacity. It can automatically adjust the level of your track with functions like Amplify and Normalize.

Otherwise I like the chiptune sounds but I think it would benefits from another voice like a bassline or a lead with a higher octave to add some depth to the song.

Thanks, I'll be sure to address the issue with the volume. I pitched up one of the channels by an octave and I like the separation in pitch, it makes the track feel a bit less muddy.

I'd really like to write another section for this song, but one thing I'm struggling with a lot is trying to understand how multiple sections of a song fit together. For instance, how does the verse of a song inform its chorus? Should I be thinking about the overall theme of the song? How do people think about the relationship between the different harmonic progressions of the verse and chorus? How do motifs play in to this? How does someone go about transitioning between these sections in a way that isn't jarring?

For example, in that song I just posted, I emphasize the 3 on every fourth measure with a snare drum, and that's always accompanied melodically by an F# preceding a G, and I like how the song keeps coming back to these notes because the feel of them evolves as the harmony changes. Let's say I'm thinking about writing another section to this song, and I'm trying to decide whether or not I should repeat this theme of an emphasis on the 3 of every fourth measure accompanied by some motif that changes context. What sort of things should I be thinking about in order to make this decision?

I'm sure this is an infinitely complex topic and there's a million different ways to go about this, but if anyone has any introductory material I'd be thrilled to take a look at it.

The instrumental to this one is very cool- the intro reminds me of background music that might be used in Breaking Bad or something. The vocals pull it away from that aesthetic slightly but in a good way. Very haunting.

I have about a minute left on my Soundcloud page for uploads, and I don't really want to delete anything else, but if I want to upload anything, I'm going to have to start deleting stuff. Does anyone here actually pay money to Soundcloud? Are there other services (besides Alonetone, which I already use) that perform similar functions? How do I best preserve my old robot farts and keep the ability to upload new robot farts?

I pay for Soundcloud pro for the extra space. I don't think your tracks get deleted though when you go over your space, I think your oldest tracks just get hidden.

I have been considering just migrating to Youtube though.

Everything I say draws controversy. It's kinda like the abortion issue.
I bought a Behringer interface and downloaded reaper a few weeks ago so I have been hammering out some bad tracks. So far I really like this setup. Definitely a step of from an Irig in sound quality and ease of recording. I don't know anything about recording or mixing or playing so I just put on a drum machine and go for it. Gonna try to write around 20 songs then pick around 6 to rerecord and try to actually make them sound good and get all the parts good. So far just using the free vst's that come with reaper and a few pedals. My most recent stuff is like half alternative rock and half metal. My favorites so far are probably I forgot, waste of life, and unnamed1.

Hello!

So I just really started the push to learn guitar earlier this year. I started writing songs a few weeks ago.

I put some up on my soundcloud. I play acoustic guitar and sing, I think I'm folk? Singer-songwriter, at least. And I only have my phone right now to record by the way so if any audiophiles are driven insane by the sound of my recordings, my apologies.
