Also playing BotW for the first time. Everything suddenly got dark, and I thought maybe it was a storm or something. It was a cloud passing in front of the sun. The clouds are rendered, and they can realistically block the sun. This is insane to me.

The first shrine I found off the plateau was this interlocking web of boulder puzzles that required every rune and I found a sword 5x stronger than anything I had encountered before so I tried to fight a guardian and got obliterated. This game is incredible, I love that that tutorial section ended and I still feel like there's so many systems and layers to uncover every few feet. And I think I've seen like one other person so far

I have one very small guideline which, if you wish to read it sooner rather than later, will probably enhance your enjoyment: I recommend that you focus on following the main questline until you get the camera power.

This is insane to me. lol my dude you can wear metal armor, wait for a thunderstorm, and then go in the water and if lightning hits the water all the fish come bubbling up they thought of everything in this loving game people will be discovering more poo poo like that a decade from now

Also if you don't own the DLC it's all totally worth it. A lot of the big content is later/endgame stuff but there are also some cool treasure hunts included for items and outfits with sick unique effects that you can basically acquire as soon as you're able to hun them down

I should really finish BotW. I might need to buy the DLC so I can see where I haven't been on the map yet since I stalled out at ~100 shrines. Hard to imagine where else to check but I'll still pick it up for an hour or so every so often and find a shrine. I climbed over the mountains to get to Kakariko at the beginning of the game instead of taking the road and was nearly 70 hours in before I realized I still hadn't found him... It's kind of incredible that the game even lets you do that however.
