A motor so well-suited to bolt-ons that a couple thousand dollars will net you fully double (plus) the original output and give it to you reliably for 100k miles. A motor that sucks so badly in its standard form that nobody expects a Miata would ever be quick, giving an inherent sleeper quality. Yep, BPs suck.

The sheer loving quantity of rusty nastiness contained in my seats is terrifying. I went it to do a foamectomy, I came out pretty sure I'm going to need new seats. On the plus side, the foam removal made my seats both more comfortable and a good bit lower sitting, so while I may be sitting in a half rusted out pile of rotting garbage at least I can see out the windshield and no longer have my head brushing against the top.

So I watched the first few minutes of diagnosis on my NA's AC and it looks like there's a leak on the front seal of the compressor. I asked the tech if the seal can be replaced/the compressor be rebuilt, he said no, whole thing needs to be replaced. Accurate? If so, is it something I can safely/relatively easily do myself if the system is evacuated? I'm still a mechanical noob and like I said, I'm very adverse to getting frostbite again (last time wasn't car related).

I'm going to do an oil change now and I also grabbed some coolant when I was at the store to do a flush, but I have a some last-minute doubts. I currently have some sort of greenish stuff left there from the PO but the one I got is pinkish, apparently compatible with VW TL 774 D/F or G12 and G12+, whatever that is. so a) is it ok for a BP miata? Based on some searching it seems that yes, but all the discussions are hardly conclusive. and b) should I do a full flush with the garden hose etc? The water here is pretty hard and leaves a lot of residue so I'm not sure if this would be doing more harm than good.

Go to walmart and get a bunch of distilled water. Drain your radiator, fill with the distilled water. Repeat a few times until the water is completely clear. Then drain the radiator again and fill with coolant, since there are so many different types with different harmful additives that can wear poo poo out, I only use the recommended Mazda coolant from a dealer or online. Or you can get it cheaper from a Ford dealer under Specialty Green Engine Coolant with "bittering agent" whatever that means. I forget the part number.

I know on Subarus sometimes you have to open the thermostat to force old coolant out in order to do a full flush. You can't just drain and refill the radiator, usually you have to do 2-3 full drive cycles until you just have water in the system and no antifreeze mixing with it. Don't forget to run the heater as well so that the heater core can circulate its hoard into the main system as well. I would expect Miatas (and indeed every car) are the same deal. Bittering agent makes coolant taste bad as opposed to how it usually tastes, which is delicious. This will presumably prevent your kid or dog from drinking it. If you spill coolant, dilute the poo poo out of it so nobody drinks it and gets poisoned! Seat Safety Switch fucked around with this message at 04:40 on Jul 21, 2014 |

I should have clarified, I figured drive cycles between drains was a given. But yeah, that's how I flushed all the poo poo out of mine, I just haven't added any coolant yet because the water pump leaks and i'm too lazy to do the TB job

The reason why the Mazda3 and Mazda6 have such long hoods is to fit their 4-2-1 headers. Go read up on the Skyactiv technologies page, they talk about gaining efficiency out of keeping the combustion chamber as cool as possible (aka: it requires some long rear end headers).
