I agree? Pits shouldn't be someplace you're gonna get punched in the head or kicked (ala hardcore pits). Just run around, jump into each, push each other around but dont go in wanting to hurt others purposely.

I'm looking for more bands to lift to. I like Manowar, Sabaton, Battle Beast, Grand Magus and I've been on a real Turisas kick lately. So yeah, camp and cheese is preferred . Especially looking for more similar to Turisas's Stand Up and Fight.

King of Asgard is pretty great too, a bit more thrashy, and while we're on the Viking theme throw some Amon Amarth on that playlist. While nowhere near as strong as Keldian, this Kingdom of the Night 2 album by (dinosaurs) Axxis, whose first Kingdom of the Night CD I found in a dollar bin like a decade ago, has that layered-chorus, somewhat scintillating power metal/AOR blend that might be appreciated here. Warning: it is very bright and poppy and probably lacking in self-awareness but hey this is metal: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1eszvz_axxis-kingdom-of-the-night-ii-black-edition-full-album_music In news less offensive to the kult kommittee, Aldrahn has resurfaced for The Deathtrip's Deep Drone Master, which has Snorre Ruch in some kind of producing or mixing capacity, and which appears to loving rule. For fans of Kronet til Konge and Darkthrone's best minimalist stuff, but with Thorns' overall sonority. All the album's songs have leaked to YT. Here is one: http://youtu.be/osA6zRyRZuM edit: changed first link to full album 'nother edit: oh. loving. yes. Von Sloneker fucked around with this message at 02:12 on Nov 11, 2014 |

I guess they started as a parody band (the name literally just means Heavy Metal Butt), but they pretty quickly evolved into a legit good power metal outfit with a pretty distinct sound. Yes, I'm serious, they're called Heavy Metal Butt and they're not a joke band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsdHaKd5b8w Oh and speaking of Ensiferum, Petri Lindroos was also in this band called Norther. Their first couple albums could be described as a mix of Ensiferum and Children of Bodom, and had some pretty nice catchy tunes. Afaik they took a more usual melodeath route after that, I'm not that familiar with their later material. (As an irrelevant sidenote, they were a major factor in me learning to appreciate harsh vocals way back when.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxzx7XXVO1A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN5g0MkxCpk EDIT: Von Sloneker posted:http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1eszvz_axxis-kingdom-of-the-night-ii-black-edition-full-album_music Von Sloneker posted:'nother edit: Nordick fucked around with this message at 02:23 on Nov 11, 2014 |

Where do I start sampling Nightwish to see what kind of complete faggotry I'm getting my ears into? Anyways, because I'm a career Nightwish fanboy and pretty bored at the moment, here's a quick rundown of their discography. Angels fall First: The softest album, quite a different sound from everything since. Has some folky parts, too. Tuomas actually sings some lead parts on this one and, well, let's just say there's a reason he stopped that going forward. All in all the album sounds pretty cheap to be honest, but it does have a naive kinda charm to it I guess. Song to check: Astral Romance. (yes it's just as cheesy as the title suggests.) Oceanborn and Wishmaster The straight-up power metal albums. Big step up from AFF in terms of heaviness, speed and energy. Still no orchestrations, just loads of cheesy synths and Tarja's oh-so-dramatic operatic vocals. Some absolute killer power metal songs here. Songs to check: Sacrament of Wilderness and She Is My Sin. (live version with Floor Jansen) Century Child The intermediary between the old power metal Nightwish and the new massive movie score Nightwish; Still largely power metal, but heavier, darker and bigger. Actual choir and orchestra used, though not yet to the extent as later on. Tarja considerably tones down the operatics. First album with Marco Hietala on board. Song to check: Bless the Child. (live version with Floor) Once The one where things blew the gently caress up. Poppy songs got poppier, heavy songs got heavier. Full "everything larger than life" mode engaged, choirs and orchestrations by the London Philharmonics out the rear end. Probably the quintessential Nightwish album, and the last one with Tarja on the vocals. Song to check: Ghost Love Score. (Live version. Floor Jansen absolutely nails the everloving poo poo out of this song.) Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum Natural continuation from Once. Songs more varied in style. Orchestrations possibly even a bit bigger still. Sound a lot poppier due to Anette Olzon's vocals, which are pretty warm and "girly" instead of the old dramatic style. I quite like her voice on the albums, but as a live performer I think she didn't really fit the band's style. Songs to check: Amaranth (Floor version) and Last Ride of the Day (Floor) Other things to expect from a Nightwish show: Shitloads of weapons-grade pyrotechnics, Marco Hietala being a complete loveable dumbass. Nordick posted:They barely ever play anything from their older albums. You can expect like a song or two from Century Child or even Wishmaster, but most of the set will be from Once and forward. Or that's how it's been so far, but now they have had Floor on board for a while, maybe that will change? Fans have been clamoring for it, at least That's disappointing. Everything after Once had a few good ones but it's not the same. Jansen's vocals are better for NW so maybe they'll do better.

Floor Jansen is such an amazingly versatile singer, so at least there should be one less barrier for playing the old stuff now.
