Just found out my [27F] boyfriend [29M] is a registered sex offender

quote:

u/sweatpantspoptarts
I started dating this guy a couple months ago, great connection, really sweet and funny. We both have hectic work schedules so we only see each other about once a week. I would like to preface with saying I normal “stalk” people online pretty hard at the beginning of a relationship, but I work 80 hours a week with one day off. I honestly just forgot. So to yesterday, he mentions he doesn’t have a Facebook. Fine, lots of people don’t. He claims because he was spending too much time on it. Then he says he has no social media. Like literally none. That just felt weird to me. So later that night I googled his name, and he’s a registered sex offender. It’s definitely him, picture and everything.

I call him and he explains that this girl added him on Facebook. Her Facebook said she was 19, she claimed she was 19. He was 24 at the time. They talk for a week online, she asks him to pick her up from her job at the mall. They end up having sex. At some point later he gets a call from the police. Apparently that girl was 15, and her mom overheard her telling a friend what had went down. He screenshotted their conversations and her Facebook with her lying about her age. The DA advised the mom to just let this go, as they could charge the daughter with distribution of child pornography for sending nudes, but the mom was adamant about him going to jail. He did 8 months, and has to register for a total of 10 years, 6 more years.

So that’s the story. I asked him to bring me all his court documents so I can verify his story. Assuming his side of things is true, that he really didn’t know her age, what should I do? I feel a little bad breaking up with someone who got played and made a bad choice, but also idk how I feel about having that baggage for the next 6 years.

TL;DR: my boyfriend is a registered sex offender, didn’t know the girl was underage and will be providing me evidence of that. What do I do now?

Yep, that’s definitely what happened.

My (23F) parents (56F + 67M) are separated but still living in the same house. It's taking a toll on me

quote:

u/chickenburger95
My parents were married for over 30 years. Then around 4 years ago my mum told him she wanted a divorce. He didn't want to, so she ended up moving to a hostel for a few months whilst my dad stayed at home. Me and my siblings (2M/1F all in thirties) were left to act as mediators between the two. (Also worth mentioning that my family are British Pakistani, so separation/living in separate houses is a bit more frowned upon in our culture)

Somehow it was agreed that my mum will return to the house and won't apply for divorce, if my dad stays upstairs. Thus he doesn't have access to the kitchen, living room etc. Only his bedroom and bathroom that's upstairs. It has been like this for the past three years now. He has a mini fridge etc in his room. I am aware of how unfair this situation is for my dad, especially given as he's the only one who has a job. I protested against it repeatedly but as I'm the youngest sibling my opinion wasn't really considered. They don't speak to each other at all now, unless my dad is giving my mum money for food supplies for the week.

Fast forward to the past few days and my mum is still not happy with the living conditions. She has contacted a solicitor and wants to know how much money she is entitled to if they divorce. She would like to sell the house and get half the money, so that both her and my dad can get separate flats. The problem again is that my dad does not want to do this, he wants to keep the house house so that me and my siblings have it for the future. He is very hesitant about taking any action, and keeps delaying the process which is extremely frustrating because no final conclusion is being reached.

Naturally this makes the house atmosphere quite tense, it's making me miserable knowing that neither parent is in a happy living environment. There is also a divide between the siblings opinions about whether he should keep the house. Not sure how to deal with the situation, I'm moving out next September for a masters hopefully but I feel like the next few months are really going to take a toll on my mental state. Especially as I have a history of depression and anxiety,

Tl;dr: parents separated but live in same house, dad wants to keep house but mum wants to split financial assets and buy her own flat, it's having a bad impact on my mental health.

Taco Defender
My(24M) wife(23F) proposed a long distance relationship

quote:

Obligatory this is a throwaway and this is on my phone. This is just as much getting my words and thoughts written down as it is asking for advice.

A bit of a backstory, we met in middle school, started dating in high school, and have been together since. We were the perfect couple in high school, never really fought(she has a temper, I'm very laid back, so we never got into huge arguments), and other people would come to us for relationship advice. I was her first, and the sex was great and frequent, several times a week.

After dating for 3 years, we decided to get married. She went on birth control about a month before we got married, but her doctor changed it several times, and 4 out of the 5 gave her horrible headaches around the same time every day(#2 was the good one, but they stopped making it), so she got off birth control. I know a side effect of birth control is loss of sex drive, so when it started dropping, it wasn't unexpected. Sex eventually settled around once a month by the time she got off it, but it never went back up. About a month ago she was telling me about a conversation she had with one of her friends who also got recently married, and her husband was complaining about how sex has gone from multiple times a day to once every other week. They both thought it was funny, and their husbands are lucky to have it at all, being that we're now married. She then right out told me that we'd be having sex more often if we hadn't gotten married.

While we were dating, I said often and repeatedly that I wanted to leave the state we grew up in. The people and weather are horrible, and the area around the apartment we moved was going downhill quick. We lived there 2.5 years, within the past year 2 cops have been shot to death within 2 miles, and a family a few streets away were all killed with a pickaxe in their home. We have a mutual single friend who moved several states away, bought a house, and wanted us to come live in it to help them with upkeep, maintenance, etc. We discussed it for several months, then she got a job offer(which is what she was most worried about), so we packed up everything and moved. While we've been here, I've found social events to go meet new people, but she never wants to go. We've lived here about 3-4 months, and during this Labor Day Weekend, she went back to visit everyone (plane tickets were more than I was willing to pay, and I worked this weekend). She now wants to move back. She misses her friends and family, even though she won't go meet anyone new here.

She said one of her older coworkers there(who is like a second mother to her) offered to let her stay in a spare room, and there is a place being built right down the street in her industry that she could get a job at. She said I could stay here, and she'll come visit me every couple months. I've been in a long distance relationship, and it didn't work for me, I don't think a long distance marriage will work any better.

I'm sure someone on the millions of people on the internet has gone through something similar. Advice?

tl;dr Wife and I moved several states away from friends and family, she wants to go back and is ok having a long distance marriage, I do not and am not.

My [20M] grandfather [78M] although fantastic does not like Jews.

quote:

u/TheGenieInsideLamp
My grandfather He is likeable in many ways but he regards Jewish people as competition to be defeated (his attitude his their greed will destroy all others if not). He is a successful businessman and he is proud that he broke what he called the 'Jewish monopoly' in the area.

He said that when he came to the area all of the main businesses were Jewish controlled. However, through skillful business (and thrift) he has acquired certain businesses and the Jewish business control in the area is a fraction of what it was when he came to the area in the 1960's. Some of the Jewish owners were put out of business and the others my grandfather bought out.

In his words, businesses kept people like chattel before him and the Jewish owners regarded themselves as superior to others. Whereas he has prided himself on being a fair businessman who has given workers a fair deal and looks out for them. He was concerned about employee welfare and pays a higher wage (adjusted for inflation) than the previous owners did.

He is by no means a bad man, he was active in the civil rights for both blacks and gays (he doesn't agree with gay marriage but his attitude is that it is not for him to decide that).

On the one hand, I certainly don't want the area to go back to how it was before him and he acquired the businesses fairly. You don't want one group to hold all of the businesses, that is toxic af (we control several businesses but not all in the area and meet regularly with other businesses in the area to address civic improvement). My father currently runs the business and is perhaps an even better businessman than my grandfather and my older brothers and I will have the business after him.

On the other hand, I think he should see that not all Jews are bad, before he dies. So as to heal relations. Any advice on how to do this?

I am not a Jew and I certainly don't think that the Jews are the 'chosen people'. However, it would be nice for people to get along.

TL;DR My grandfather is a highly skillful businessman but he has a dislike of Jews. I would like him to make peace with the Jewish community before he dies.

I keep saying this, but speaking as a Jew the ratio of times I have heard an actual Jewish person use the phrase "chosen people" to times I have heard a racist attribute the phrase to us is roughly zero to a billion

I dunno maybe the Haredi are saying it every day as they plot to destroy all goyim or whatever but also there are basically no Haredi to begin with and overt racists are probably 1% of them, so in conclusion chill the gently caress out
