I was wrong when I picked FOOK over Project Nevada, I thought the former was less of an overhaul and didn't realize that Project Nevada was modular.

I've decided to ditch Mission Mojave/FOOK and use these mods:

  • Weapon Mod Menu
  • Project Nevada (parts of it, at least)
  • WMX
  • jsawyer
  • Fallout New Vegas 4GB
  • Flashlight NVSE
  • oHUD (going to try this, not sure I'll like it)
  • Unified HUD
  • Right to Bear Arms
  • Better Loading Text
  • Better Perk Descriptions
  • Honest Hearts Letter
  • Music Recovery
  • CASM

Do any of these jump out as being low quality / something to avoid?

If you've got Gun Runners Arsenal I'd recommend you get Right to Bear Arms, as it spreads the mods and weaponry across the game, not just at one specific shop.

I'm sort of at my wit's end with OWB. I keep getting tons upon tons of CTDs, whether it be from just fast-travelling from one point to another, or even just walking a few steps forward. I figured it might have been my old mod list that was causing the CTDs months ago, but I've since started a newer, smaller mod list and even then I'm still crashing nearly every five minutes. Armour is the default Marked Man Patrol Armour from Lonesome Road, the accessories are from Tailor Maid, Satchels and Holster Gear, the hat is Daniel's from Honest Hearts and the mask is a mesh edit of a helmet from ADAM. I'm not sure about the gloves, I ripped them from some mod I think.

So uh, yeah. My FPS is 20-15 using standard High settings. My rig consists of GTX 580, 8gigs of ram and and i5 2500k. Either I am doing something terribly wrong, or this game is just badly optimized. Vsync is disabled, using HDR.

I dunno how to export my load order, but the only texturechanging mods I am using are Project Nevada and WMX.

Does anyone have any goddamn clue wth is wrong?

I want to say it's a bit of both: The engine isn't great, but that's not normal for your specs, either. Are your drivers up to date? What sort of AA + AF settings do you have?

Obviously it's a little too late for you to find out, but New Vegas actually got patches that fixed poo poo, unlike Fallout 3 or Oblivion. Community patches for those games (and Morrowind) are pretty much a necessity, but for New Vegas, they're more a force of habit. We've adjusted to the idea that every one of these games needs a comprehensive patch to get it in working order.

With the sheer amount of stuff that Mission Mojave touches, it's impossible to say if it'll trash a save after you remove it. I want to say that it's likely, but you could uninstall it and continue on like nothing happened.

Since I'm in middle of redistributing mods, what aspects of CCO does everyone like? I'm considering using it, just not sure if I want ALL of it (yes I noticed it's modular).

I know what you mean. Only I take it to the nitpick top! Let me take you on a journey of spergy proportions. FOOK had a lovely non-faction version of the NCR Combat Armor called the Desert Ranger Armor. So instead of just naming their version something else, they change the name of the HH Desert Ranger Armor to the Survivalist's Combat Armor. There's also plenty of other small annoying choices that bug me for some reason. Like renaming the GRA Nuka Grenade something like Nuka-Quartz Grenade or something equally silly. Also they made the Gannon Family Tesla Armor heavy instead of medium. Which again bugs me because that was the only thing that set that armor apart from various other bits.

Maybe it's this weird design philosophy of making the game work with your mod instead of the other way around. It does show an odd sense of arrogance I feel.

I finally just decided to edit the bits I didn't like to vanilla variants. What I'm trying to say is don't use FOOK (kidding it's okay sometimes).

Regarding CCO, it depends on what sort of game you're shooting for. For example, I'm using pretty much the entire suite in conjunction with a modified copy of JSawyer.esp (which has been adjusted to drastically reduce drop rates for food, chems, and stims.) I'm shooting for a tougher game.

CCO does a few things to help me out. For one thing, it adds some perks and traits that are actually balanced and interesting. The original ones were, too, but a lot of Perks and Traits mods are imbalanced. This gives me some more variety when I play around with some different characters and gimmicky builds, and variety's never a bad thing. The other thing it does is go through and rebalance preexisting perks to make them more useful and mesh better with the mod's gameplay tweaks.

Also, you've got the follower tweaks. I really didn't like how Boone was this unstoppable killing machine, originally, and how two companions could really trivialize parts of the game. I believe CCO makes the companions more durable, but less powerful. There are additional plugins to allow followers to execute sneak criticals, and to give Rex the same "find me some loot!" ability as Fo3's dog.

Rabhadh

CCO's Follower Tweaks is fantastic and I'd recommend anyone to give it a go, it feels great and improves the game no end.

Everything can be edited at runtime, even shader code. The problem with this is that the only way to find out that you broke something is when all postprocessing suddenly doen't work anymore. What I do when I change something in the code is to set one setting to some insane value that it completly breaks the visuals, so I instantly know when I made an error somewhere.

I already tweaked a few settings to make indoor locations a bit brighter. They are still pretty dark but should at least be bright enough so that you can walk through them. This also brightened the night but there's sadly no other solution for this as of now. The only changes I made are:

AmbientLightingCurveNight=0.7

and

AmbientLightingIntensityNight=1.0

The .7z file was already updated.

I've changed the .ini up a bit. Not a whole lot though, we have similar tastes it seems. I mostly just changed the sky gradient up. I also increased the color saturation a little bit and reduced the bleach bypass. All the shots except for the last one were taken around noon. Still too dark during the day for being in the middle of the desert in my opinion.

Yeah, but just the Weapon Retexture Project. Looking at it more closely, it looks like the whole gun is textured with the Airborne decal that's normally on the magwell, which is pretty weird.

So I pieced together something in Nifskope:

Problem is that, while it looks fine in Nifskope, in-game some of the parts are offset by a foot or so. The neckerchief will be floating in mid-air, for example. How do I fix this? I know absolutely nothing about mesh editing beyond copy/pasting and moving bits around.

I'm also wondering how I get the program to play animations.

Also, I'd recommend also reinstalling those relevant weapon mods as potential last resort. something may have hosed something up. AG's SU bugged out on me like that earlier and it was fixed by reinstalling it and flipping archive invalidation off and on.

WME's compatibility patch hasn't been updated after like October unfortunately (the author of WME handles it himself).

I only just started a run with the jsawyer mod so I can't say if its good for a first run, but you should know that if you want to use it you need to have all of the DLC, including the item packs. The Ultimate Edition, basically.

Hardcore mode is at most broken that you end up swimming in food and water before long. (jsawyer fixes this, my character actually ends up having to drink dirty water sometimes. Just make sure you don't get one of those mods that let you refill bottles, they break the whole balance and thought behind drinking) I only know of two things that could be technically broken about it:

The first one could be on account of my installation but when I get prompted at the start of the game if I want to activate hardcore mode, the selection doesn't seem to do anything, I have to activate it through the gameplay settings.

The second one is a known bug, sometimes the sleep counter gets stuck (doesn't display a number anymore in the pipboy) and your character basically doesn't grow tired anymore. To fix this you just have to sleep for one hour in some bed, sleep will work normally again then.

I'd just heard that it wasn't working as intended. It must have been fixed, then.

Warte nur! Balde
Ruhest du auch.

In JSawyer there is a known issue with the hardcore transitions not being set properly. Unfortunately, this is due to an error in how we coded the GECK hardcore settings interface. Some people have suggested it can be worked around by using FNVEdit, but when I attempt to use FNVEdit to open JSawyer, I get an error and am unable to work on anything.

Strange, because I'm able to open up jsawyer.esp just fine. (did so to merge a few changes between it and other mods) What's the error?

Whenever you get an error in FNVedit look at the last esp/esm that it attempted to load. Most of the time FNVedit won't load because you've got masters below mods that use them or don't have the masters at all.

Is there a way to mark places you've found as unexplored while still showing them on the map? I'm having a hard time remembering what I've already gone inside while wandering around the wastes.

That's one of the neat features added in Skyrim - incase you haven't played it, you get a 'cleared' tag added to an area on the map.

I completly changed around how the day looks like since then, still no idea what to do about nights as long as night/indoors is the same set of settings. The best way to brighten up the enviroment in the Day is upping LightingIntensityDay while lowering AmbientLightingCurveDay for less contrast.
