I am 24 (almost 25) and he is 32 (turning 33). It started when I was 23 and he was 31 when I went into boot camp. We had just gotten married a few months prior to me leaving for boot camp. I would like to say I’m a fairly attractive female and the women he cheated on me with were all emotional and physical affairs. Part of it feels like he did it because I haven’t been able to get pregnant and he even had the audacity to ask if I was really sexually assaulted (because he was cheating at the time). He has schizophrenia/anxiety/severe depression/PTSD but that to me isn’t an excuse for his behavior. I’m just so hurt and angry still.

Yeah, he also takes his medication infrequently.

And then on some topic called What's The Most hosed Up Thing You Think About On A Regular Basis (this was apparently before she found out about the infidelity.)

Wait is charging crystals really a thing people believe in? I always thought it was just something Jon Hendren made up for that SA frontpage article of craigslist dudes charging each other's JO crystals.

Yes, it is absolutely a thing. They show up in the weirdest places too. You'll find randos selling a bunch of geodes and poo poo with astrological symbols and fancy labels next to the beef jerky vendors and coin collectors at gun shows.

Yeah, my great grandfather apparently joined up in 1915 at the age of 35 to get the hell away from his first wife. By that point, stories from the trenches were percolating back home so the whole "all over by Christmas" bullshit was dead and gone. I cannot imagine what kind of domestic misery he endured that made sitting in a muddy ditch for weeks on end with rats and lice and corpses and gas and bombardments for entertainment seem like a preferable alternative. Anyways, he made it to 85 before he passed away, though Nan said that he walked with a slight limp for the whole of her life (she was born well after the war) and as he got older, cold or damp weather gave him hell.

I had a great uncle who joined up at the age of 40 not long after the Somme. I can only guess that he decided that his country needed him in it's hour of need or something. Survived being gassed at Le Quesnoy only to die in England post-war from the flu epidemic.

I realized that when I leave, I'm going miss this loving organization. With the loving micro-trashing, hay-punching, carrying-hay-bales-up-hills, and other assorted bullshit. I think what happens is that when you leave an organization that provided so much structure and abused reshaped you, is that all the bad, mind-numbing poo poo that made your daily life loving miserable kind of floats away, leaving all the good memories and fun times you had behind. And now that I know this - its loving happening to me. My old center? The one where I started dumb little slapfights with my COMET brothers over a washing machine? I'm going up there in a week to talk to the Conservation Supervisor about transferring back to it.

My cousin owns a waste disposal company and has a massive fireworks show on his property every 4th. Last time I took part, one of the mortars I lit failed to launch and made a two foot hole in the 3/4" Plywood platform we were launching them from. The launch tube was completely gone and it left a pretty decent crater under the plywood. I can only imagine the effects on a human torso. I'm guessing these idiots were bored with roman candle fights and decided to take it up a notch.

Yeah I think they're just talking out of their asses and it just exploded in the tube and the shell/pressure buildup must have been big enough to kill him.

As a kid I've messed around with cheaper mortars and purposely loaded them upside down to see what would happen and IIRC the launching charge just made a poofing sound into the air and then the shell exploded and flung a bunch of sparks and poo poo out the top of the tube, the tube didn't even break. Dude must have had a really big fancy one or it was manufactured with too much powder or something.

shame on an IGA
Apr 8, 2005

Agreed on the upside downness being inaccurate, I've never gotten through a box of 24 without at least one jumping past the lift charge entirely and detonating prematurely in the tube.

I am in the military and recently got stationed in the greater New Orleans area. My husband and I have a roommate that moved with us from the state where we were previously living (that's a while other story). A couple months after being down here she states that she's pregnant, well, fast forward to now. My husband has recently stated this week that he wants to "adopt" the child (I.e. put his name on the birth certificate so it can get on my insurance) and I've spoken with the JAG down here, but I didn't really broach that aspect of it to the JAG because he was really no help. I did find out that this state is a "no fault divorce" state, what are my options to protect myself as the service member?
