Sharpshooter's Shredder only works on the primary weapon. I have two Sharpshooters with Shredder and it owns bones regardless.

I've been playing for a couple days. Is there a commander's guide to ambushing out there somewhere? At first I was just putting squaddies into overwatch, then kicking off the show with a sniper. But this started getting me a solid headshot, a bunch of misses and a pissed off pod followed by casualties. So I started putting the sniper in overwatch, and kicking off with explosives for slightly better results, but it's still lackluster, especially since even if my entire team unloads into an andromedon it just means his corpse will assfuck my point man anyway. Should I just shitcan overwatch on ambush? Seems like special abilities & explosives are where it's at. I suck

physeter posted:Should I just shitcan overwatch on ambush? Seems like special abilities & explosives are where it's at. I suck Generally I only start going for Overwatch ambushes when my Specialists have the GTS Overwatch perk and Tracer Rounds. Never OW with explosive Grenadiers because a follow-up grenade is more valuable than a cannon shot for cleaning up, and try to open ambushes with a grenade if you don't need anything particularly dead from the outset. Even then, never over-commit. Try to ensure you have one or two people to shoot any survivors (if the grenades don't get them), or at least toss a defensive item.

The thing to remember with full-Overwatch ambushes is that you're basically giving any surviving enemies 3 turns to gently caress you up before you get a chance to do anything. I hardly ever put anyone in overwatch for ambushes except for my sniper.

physeter posted:Should I just shitcan overwatch on ambush? I think it's a judgment call if you don't put anyone at all into overwatch, and Sharpshooters and Specialists can of course get overwatch abilities. But you can't control what enemy overwatch shots target. And if you put your whole squad besides the one that fires the first shot into overwatch you have nobody left to react after the pod has scattered. In combination that makes having more than one or two people in overwatch pretty unappealing to me, and personally I often just don't bother with it.

I generally only put my sniper on overwatch (using Kill Zone) for ambushes. Kill Zone doesn't have to worry about targeting and stays active thorough the enemies' turn. Everyone else holds their action until after the initial ambush.

That's roughly what I do, even on the first mission it'll be a case of two on overwatch, one throws a grenade, the last one either flanks if its safe, or hits overwatch so the other guy can't.

Game only has two big flaws that I see. 1: Sometimes it's hard to see where exactly units are/where they're going on the z azis. I wish there was a toggle option to show only one vertical level of the map at a time. 2: The absence of an Arrested Development voicepack. I mean COME ON!

Correct me if I'm wrong here or have picked up the wrong information but it doesn't appear to be much granularity to modding the pod numbers or size, and no split between "elite" units (like that Andromedon pod) and "troopers" (chaff like well, troopers). Nor is there a way to have a % chance to increase pod size, it's either "4#/5#/6# sized pod" or not (so no 25% chance for a pod to be 7# sized while the "normal" pods are 4#-sized). Hope they add more moddability there. Fighting 2 Gatekeepers + 4 Andromedons sure is fun though (gently caress that psi nuke). Or that time I went up against 7 Codexes + 1 Avatar + A full pod of Mutons (and 2 Berserkers). Codexes are loving jerks. Pimpmust fucked around with this message at 18:22 on Feb 22, 2016 |

They don't put out flames (I don't think), but the poison cloud doesn't cause any environmental damage, meaning you can just blanket the area in a giant poison cloud and not worry about hurting the device. Works great with train runs as well.
