I can enjoy the ones where what they're doing might, at worst, end with some missing fingers, maybe a lost eye, but probably just an ambulance ride and some stitches, because that's the same kind of stuff a lot of us did when we were growing up (see: cherry bombs and trash cans).

With what he's doing, though, it would not surprise me if tomorrow someone came in here and said that he killed himself or someone around him after loving around with something that he had no business messing with. It's like an explosives version of LA Beast...

I spent my time trying to find some sort of FDA whistleblowing function to try to put the screws to these cheap assholes, but unfortunately there isn't really a safeguard against stingy companies as long as the medical devices don't maim or kill a patient. I couldn't find any mechanism that could help me try to get them to spend some money for modern imaging machines instead of another yacht payment. Even when I find another job I probably can't attempt to throw them under the bus because they would most certainly scour every single thing I did in order to find anything to get my certifications revoked. It's disgusting and the truly horrifying thing is that I work for the largest outpatient imaging company in America. I can only imagine what corners smaller companies cut to remain profitable if the largest one in the game is more than happy to balk at paying a $8,000 part replacement going on 8 months now when they had $884,500,000 in revenue last year.

Yeah this reminds me of that mentally disabled annoying gently caress that would film himself eating all kinds of weird poo poo and then vomiting it out. What was he called, the LA Beast I think. First of all seeing that made me physically sick, and secondly I don't understand why people enjoy watching folks with mental issues hurt themselves over and over again.

If someone makes an OSHA mistake, that's funny. Or terrible, but funny.

If someone keeps hurting/endangering themselves on purpose and there's nobody to stop them, it's just sad.

re: La Beast

The only good ones is when he eats something that is pretty extreme that would realistically entail a vomit response like that fermented fish that no one should eat in this day in age.

Or is considered poisonous in the quantities that he ate like the infamous sugar-free Haribo gummy bears. That caused him to poo poo himself in fair short order.

Most of the time he vomits just because he can and he just ate too much which isn't interesting.

Oh I guess my lack of electrical engineering knowledge made that a bad joke. It was supposed to be a joke about poking with a screwdriver at an xray system that is hooked up to a 150kV transformer somewhere down the line. I'll just stick to operating superconducting 3T magnets instead of jokes. One of the things that bothers me is when someone refers to me as an xray/MRI/nuclear medicine technician. One of my teachers would tell us that technicians service equipment, technologists operate equipment. At best I could only tell you the concepts behind the working guts of an MRI, but I can run a volume interpolated gradient echo fat saturation post contrast with contrast bolus tracking no problem.

On a more OSHA hearted note, we recently had a patient scheduled for an MRI that we had to cancel. He had some sort of ferromagnetic metal chunk in his wrist of unknown origin. When asked how he knew the metal in his wrist was ferromagnetic, he replied that he can feel it twist and pull when he's at work. His job is installing MRI units :psyduck: I certainly imagine he's on the grunt labor part of the installation and not anything technical. Dude is lucky that the magnets have very little current before ramping. He won't die or anything, but he does have a nonzero risk of nerve damage if that sucker gets in a high enough field.
