Old Town Road to EGOT

Just got an email from loving Bassnectar :stonk: Guess I forgot to unsubscribe from his email list.

quote:

Over the past several years, the Bassnectar Project has been building a new landscape for our beautiful community to connect, share, and celebrate together. We know you’re out there, and we know how special what we all built together is, and always will be… We also know how deeply painful it was to experience everything that was so magical be torn down, but the pain we all felt is something we can heal together.

In time we will be able to put words to these feelings, but for now our team is inspired to speak through art, music, and creative expression. And we are absolutely BURSTING with energy to share!!! We designed The Other Side to be a direct outlet for imagination, as well as a centralized hub of transmission, interaction and nurturing for our community. It’s many months in the making, and we’ll be launching in full effect in the coming weeks.

In the meantime we want to invite you to enjoy a glimpse of what is to come. You can join early and be a part of our creative process right now. You can explore new music and a brand new horizon as we build it together, live in the moment

Uhh, gently caress you dude! I haven't forgotten what you did!

I skimmed the posts on his reddit. There's a handful of announcements for poo poo no one should pay him for, like exclusive access to tickets - so you can pay twice.

Most of them are about "The Bassnectar Project". It is a subtle trick to convince you that one Lorin Ashton (alleged rapist and abuser) is not synonymous with "Bassnectar".

Lol remember when DP vinyl was going for 200 a pop because people thought a breakup meant will never be repressed and not the exact opposite

yeah that was incredibly dumb. I guess I could understand that back in say 2005 where most albums just got the one small pressing and that was it (because vinyl was just for DJs and dorks like me) but we're now in an era where a bunch of albums are getting delayed 6-8 months due to backups at the pressing plants, obviously they were gonna be repressed en masse

I'm not huge into DP but I had to get Alive 2007, idk if I've ever seen anyone capture "here is our catalogue, but only the good parts" so well

thought it was pretty funny when it came out - my friends and I had been listening to a pretty good bootleg and when the official product dropped I could not figure out if it was the same exact show or now. I think it was different in that the bass drops out in Alive 2007. but I think the set list they played was identical. in fact I remember hearing it was all premixed and recorded. so they weren't really doing anything on stage. lmao

New Orbital single dropped 20 minutes ago. It's pleasant enough, and it picks up after the drop, but definitely the weakest of the three singles from Optical Delusion.

OK, that does kinda bang - even in mono (I moved and can't find some of my speaker cables :().

A detail I find particularly neat is that the dhol(?) drumming in the drop is blended right into a little synth squawk that seems to have the exact same timbre as the drums - it might even be in there for the whole drum riff, gated or something, reinforcing the melody that's already there.

Don't much care for the speed house outro, but what can you do.

I agree with the caveat that we’re not counting the “yo listen hear that? Killers in the jungle” breakdown as it’s own song. Every dj this summer is gonna take that sample as a transition.

Skrillex singing on one of his tracks as Sonny Moore. The track is atmospheric and not EDM at all, though. It's more like a 4 minute interlude. This is definitely gonna break up the flow on the album.

^ I dig Hang drums a lot, it's nice to hear them again in an EDM-adjacent context. He's always had a really good voice for that kind of tune. And with lyrics like those (it's basically just Scary Monsters again), just like that a whole new generation of disaffected youths is born.

This made me laugh out loud.

San Holo is finally coming back here for the first time in years on this tour but it's a DJ set tour, not a live tour, which I'm kinda bummed about. The first couple times I saw him, he played DJ sets, so I've seen him do that before and I know they're cool, but I prefer his live shows. Oh well, I'll still try to go to this.

Skrillex's Quest for Fire comes out in a few hours! :woop:

According to Wiki, here's the tracklist:

quote:

1. "Leave Me Like This" (with Bobby Raps) 3:08
2. "Ratata" (with Missy Elliott and Mr. Oizo) 2:06
3. "Tears" (with Joker and Sleepnet) 3:05
4. "Rumble" (with Fred Again and Flowdan) 2:26
5. "Butterflies" (with Starrah and Four Tet) 3:15
6. "Inhale Exhale" (with Aluna and Kito) 3:25
7. "A Street I Know" (with Eli Keszler) 3:35
8. "Xena" (with Nai Barghouti) 4:11
9. "Too Bizarre (Juked)" (with Swae Lee, Siiickbrain and Posij) 3:28
10. "Hydrate" (with Flowdan, Beam and Peekaboo) 3:36
11. "Warped Tour '05" (with Pete Wentz) 0:48
12. "Good Space" (with Starrah) 2:12
13. "Supersonic (My Existence)" (with Noisia, Josh Pan and Dylan Brady) 2:45
14. "Hazel Theme" 1:51
15. "Still Here (With the Ones That I Came With)" (with Porter Robinson and Bibi Bourelly) 5:03

So a few of the singles that have been released already are on here, but not all of them. The newest single (Don't Get Too Close) isn't on here. Neither is the track with Bladee or Way Back.

Can't wait to hear the whole thing.

e: It's hard to choose but I think Tears may be my favorite track from the new Skrillex. Does it remind anyone else of Burial?

Porter also has a writing credit on Hazel Theme. I'm assuming he did the piano part in the last 30 seconds?

e2: According to Reddit there's another full album on the way with the tracks that didn't make it on QFF like Way Back, Real Spring and Don't Get Too Close along with tracks with Kid Cudi and Chief Keef and it comes out tomorrow?! :psyboom:

I completely agree with him about RAM. I don't always agree with him, but he's right: that album kicks rear end. What I don't agree with him on is Human After All being "brittle". I know it's not everyone's favorite Daft Punk album (hell, it's not my favorite), but it has a bunch of really strong tracks. On Alive 2007 (which may be one of the best live albums ever recorded), you can really see how dope a lot of those tracks are.

RAM is bad, it's their worst by far. Someone said it right here years ago: Daft Punk are great producers, and really bad songwriters.
